I always admired how Sgt. Friday kept his job with the LAPD. They bounced him from bureau to bureau on a weekly basis - homicide, robbery, juvenile, bunko, narcotics, everything but parking tickings. He couldn't keep a job in any particular part of the PD for more than a week or two at a time. Never promoted. The chief must have hated him.
