Jack Webb and Harry Morgan recreate their Dragnet roles as Sgt. Joe Friday and Officer Bill Gannon on the The Jack Benny Second Farewell Special which aired January 24, 1974.
No one could get a bigger laugh by just standing there, looking at an audience for what seemed like an eternity, just to bring the house down with a "Well!". Still one of the funniest men ever.
There are very few Hollywood types, living or dead, who I would feel honored to meet. Jack Webb is one of them. In addition to the great shows he was responsible for there is no telling how many lives were saved because of his show "Emergency".
My wife and I saw Jack Benny and Johnny Carson together in Las Vegas in 1969. They were unbelievably funny! I love Johnny but to see Jack Benny was the highlight of our trip. Oh, I forgot to mention, we also saw Elvis at the International Hotel on the same trip! Quite a trip!
He had a lot of costars on the original Dragnet. When he revived it in '67, he chose the right actor, Harry, to be his partner. Watch it every weekday on METV.
I love Jack Webb and Harry Morgan. I still watch Dragnet and the other two shows Jack produced and directed, Adam 12 and Emergency as well as Harry Morgan on MASH almost every day on the MeTV television network. Some may not realize Detectives Joe Friday and Frank Gannon wore the same suit on most episodes to help keep wardrobe cost down. They also used the same 20 or so actors on all the episodes including actors from Adam 12 and Emergency. RIP Jack and Harry and most of the cast
"Dragnet" is going to join the daily lineup on the retro "feTV" network later this month! They are already showing "Adam-12" & "Emergency" (the other two best known shows from Jack Webb's production company).

Years back I saw a film of Jack Benny entertaining troops during the Second World War. As he was playing his violin soldiers would throw pennies onto the stage. After each one Mr. Benny would stop playing and pick up the penny. Absolutely hilarious 😂

Not true. In the original Dragnet series Friday was promoted to lieutenant. When the show was brought back in the late sixties, Jack Webb decided to go back to being a sergeant. It was his show.

Webb's stiffness with his hands and arms (even when he walked) was a trademark. Easy to tell he was much more relaxed about it all, 4 years later than the show's end, in this sketch. It was, after all Bill, a comic parody-or did you miss that?
I have satellite radio,one particular channel has old time radio classics. It has dragnet and the Jack Benny show. It was way before my time but I enjoy listening to those shows and others

I loved Jack Webb. I was obsessed with Dragnet as a child watching the reruns in the 1970s. I thought it was just hilarious to make fun of the hippies (whom we now refer to as "Boomers"). My friends and I used to speak to one another in rapid fire staccato. I also really enjoyed two other shows Jack Webb created: Adam-12 and Emergency.

That "May I have your autograph, please?" bit was a nice touch. In the real Dragnet, Gannon asks a washed up, lonely old actor for her autograph out of pity.
What really made it funny was that each played his part absolutely straight. It was the timing and the incongruity that supplied the humor. Does anyone know the story behind Morgan's magnificent mustache? I have to assume he was playing in a Western at the time.
He was General Steele in an episode around the same time. He became Colonel Potter in season 4 in 1975 through the end of the run of the series. There's a clip of Alan Alda commenting about Harry Morgan talking about Jack Webb being so serious on the set of Dragnet and it's hilarious.

Harry Morgan was a supporting acting treasure, drama, comedy, whatever, Dragnet, MASH, Inherit The Wind, The Glenn Miller Story, etc.
The MASH episode where he toasted his former WWI buddies was hands down the best episode of the series.
