Great video man. Keep it up. Keep talking about your journey and how you deal with it. I'm sure there are millions of others just like you and talking about your own struggles might help them.

That video was WAY more personal than I imagined.
And I commend you for it!
Didn't really get the "faith" connection when watching the film myself.
Mainly just the "emotionally neglectful real-life father".
    But your interpretation makes sense.
And indeed I was also brought up in a religious family; and stepped out along the way.
    Still confusing though..

The first time I saw it, I was only seeing the real life father until that scene where Pitt has to send the voice message to his dad. Thanks for watching!

@@RobertsThoughts Indeed now that you pointed out that it sounds prayer-like, indeed you are *not* wrong; it kind-of does!
'Funny' perhaps how we can treat real parental figures in similar ways to 'heavenly fathers' at times. Even though, perhaps, *both* might be more flawed than we realize...
      And I wonder now...
Have you seen the TV show "Lucifer"?
With your personal relation with religion, you might find some intriguing developments in that one too.
Plus, it's just plain entertaining and hilarious.
      Or perhaps "Raised By Wolves"?
*That* one I haven't yet seen myself as it was only recommended to me yesterday.
But based on the summary I read, it's got some similar themes too.

And I haven't seen either of those shows. I honestly don't make a ton of time for TV with all the movies and regular life, but I'm a big Ridley Scott fan, so I'll probably check out Raised by Wolves at some point!

I’m not sure how I came across this vid, but I walked the path you’ve been down, and understand to an uncommon extent how unimaginably complex, nuanced, and frustrating the phenomenon of the American Christian church’s dysfunction and failure is. I have a song called Walk Alone on my channel describing a bit of my story in this area, and I think you may resonate with it. I respect, admire, and want to encourage your search for truth in a way the church would be likely to discourage or outright attack- and if you would ever like to dive deeper into the subtleties of this conceptual web with someone a bit older (I’m 30) and further down the path, plz feel free to reach out. Best of luck, brother

Thanks so much for the comment and encouraging words. I'll definitely be checking out that song.
I'm definitely further down the path than I was 4/5 months ago when I made this video, but there will likely always be little things to overcome.

This film is about going back to deal with your past before you can move into the future (Roy at the end of the film). I don't think we have dealt with our pasts as individuals or even as a species at this time in history. One day soon, we will, and we will collectively move on. I love this film.

@@RobertsThoughts Cheers man, if they ever made a sequel I would focus on more positive themes like humanities expansion into interstellar space and actually discovering another civilization. It would make a good double feature with opposing views. It's still a great movie on its own terms.

If they thought Maroon 5 was evil, would love to see their reaction to something actually dark like early Tool

    Wow this is big!
    Just have to say:
Many churches are so extreme you either become a fanatic or a total rebel.
I decided on an in between thing. With my feet still on the ground and life in focus, but .. with a happy thought of God behind there somewhere.
Unlike the movie, by theology, God would care. But I asked myself, well, to what extent do I?
    Faith? Yeah sure
    Culture? No thank you
    Life and love? Yes please
