Jute looks rustic, but ribbon might be quicker and still look good. You can use burlap ribbon. It will retain the rustic look while reducing your production time. Plus, you're less likely to suffer 3rd degree burns.
Don't be embarrassed, we had a cow butchered, got the fat and I left it sit in the freezer forever and never used it! We all need to give ourselves grace for certain things- I love your idea and think I'll be making these for Christmas gifts. Thank you for sharing! Also, "That'll do, pig." Love it- Babe was a great movie back in the day!
There are plenty of TH-cam videos on suet substitutes that won't melt in the summer and won't break the bank. Perhaps you should go down that rabbit hole.
You could luck out at the supermarket and find suet pre-packed in the meat section. That's what we purchase to stock out suet feeder and there is no need for requesting it.
Hi Natalie, long time no see. 😅 To make it easier and less messy, mix the extra seed in the pot with the suet and then just scoop it into the mugs. For the string, wrap it tightly a couple of times around the handle and tie a knot, and then you can make bigger loops to hang from the tree. For the suet, it should become more readily available coming into Christmas because people use it for boiled puddings and stuff. You may even be able to order suet from Amazon, no need to interact with people then. I think you can use peanut butter to make bird feeders too, but it wouldn't set as firmly as the suet and you'd need one that is pure peanuts, no additives like sugar etc.
Ideally, the loops of string should be such that rainwater won't gather in the mug (i.e. top of mug faces down at a bit of an angle even when the contents is nearly all gone.). I used to use lard as the fat liquid medium, sunflower seed flour, sunflower and mixed bird seed.
Nicely Done👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🐦🐿🐦🐿🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🐦🐿
I'm glad you didn't hurt yourself.😃😉🌹
Yes. I am a squirrel and it’s my favourite food!
Those look awesome! Also great job diversifying your products!
What a novel and practical idea. Thanks for sharing the concept. And by the way, you ARE adorable... if an aging geezer may make so bold.

I ask myself that same question everyday of my life.

Thank you! I looked at the store and didn't see any, but I'll keep an eye out!

Where are the birds going to get the money to buy them?
Government handouts. 🤣 -N
