Yeah, to me the right idea was: it's not a big boat, so it's likely used for small fishing and stuff, so it would have a small anchor with maybe 30ft of rope for shallow waters. Wrap the rope around some of the reef with slack to allow for waves, then bodger can force the drag-end of the anchor into the reef so the rope can't slip. Double secured. So at the least rolls against the boat's DC (that was a 14 in the video) would be at disadvantage.
I have to say this is just the perfect episode to encapsulate BatD, an all-time great episode with Bodger diving off, the whole anchoring in a storm nonsense, and capping off by Baradun blasting himself in the face. Just absurdly beautiful.
20:40 thank you, Rob, for mentioning this part. There are times where, in my world building, I find myself exploring the whole iceberg of subjects instead of just the surface. I cannot express how much of a relief it is that the legendary dm I idolize does it too
I love how bare dude went through the whole lighting the lantern with fireball thing. When he has prestidigitation. Which lets you just instantly light a candle, torch, campfire, lantern.
Baradun should have cast "That's not going anywhere!" on the boat. Vocal and somatic components are you have to slap it twice on the side while loudly proclaiming the aforementioned, after covering it in your oil of immovability.
They spent all that money to get a boat only to abandon it in the middle of a storm as they move on with their quest. They should have just asked to be ferried out there for a fraction of the cost!
I'm pretty sure this is what they've implied a few times, especially considering they've made reference to his quest Journel and him pressing Q to open it several times.
@@jaydonthewarrior636 B.O.B. hasn't been the only one, and they might be implying that the NPC's would need to know their end goals in order to determine the next parts of their quests. Technically, older languages for quests would create a language, which could be interpreted as a quest journal.
14:35 The other thing most people misunderstand about anchors is the anchor itself barely does anything. IT's the weight of the CHAIN that makes it work. You've got 200 feet of chain, with links forged from 4-inch thick metal rods. That's a lot of weight under the boat when you drop the anchor. With 200 feet of length, too, which is where the drag (friction against the water) comes into play. And for the boat to move, it would have to drag ALL that chain through the water. So the ship will drift a bit no matter what, but for the most part it won't go very far. The anchor itself isn't really intended to "hook onto" the coral reef or whatever... but if it hits sandy ground on the bottom of the sea it could dig in a bit which provides a bit more drag. Really it's only meant to be HEAVY so it drags the entire chain down with it when you drop it in the water.
Oh, what Alan said made me think, and I realized Ben has accidentally set his campaign on the hardest difficulty so all his rolls are automatically -10 🤣🤣🤣

I saw a short from one TH-camr that D&D magic is indeed not real. Detect thoughts requires a copper piece (a penny for your thoughts), fireball requires bat guano and sulfur, both of which are needed for gunpowder, aid requires a strip of white cloth (bandage), animal friendship requires some food (yeah, animals tend to be friendly those that feed them). Almost all the original spells had pun/related spell components. It was inevitable when you had a game system built by Midwestern dads The idea being that you magically amplified the effect. So aid would help more than a bandage, fireball would be bigger than an equivalent amount of black powder, etc.
28:10 Can I just say, this green screen skit is my favorite moment of this series so far. I had to watch it three times and I'm still laughing.
