Really like how you started with how there are (3) adjustments and made it simpler than I have ever heard it explained before. Once you understand that concept, the rest is pretty common sense. Nice coverage
I’m installing the rear derailleur and out of every TH-cam videos they’re this one helped the most it was clearly and simple with easy to understand instructions on how to adjust it thank you a lot.
I never thought I’d understand the”rear derailleur” just the name of the contraption disoriented me. But you did it ,thank you! This video saved me money and that means a lot right now man thanks again
I've watched several other videos and simply could not get it right when I did it myself. I liked your approach and now I can adjust my derailleur. Thank you.
Very clear and helpful explanation, really the best I've seen for someone learning. Going through the steps to show what bad adjustment looks & sounds like, and then showing AND explaining how to fix it was excellent.
This process has always seemed really complex and just a little scary. You made this seem easy. Nice work, I reckon I could do this now. Love this series.
Being new to cycling, this particular tutorial gave me an intuitive, uncomplicated step by step guide, for me to surprisingly discover I needed to make adjustments to my newly acquired bike which I managed to fulfill thanks to your video demo... Many thanks again👍
This is by far the best video I've seen on adjusting a derailleur! The "breaking" part made it so much easier to understand. Many thanks to you, my MTB gears are now purring like a kitten.
Gene you took out the fear of failing to even start learning to making me excited to learn more about my bike. You truly place your viewers at ease to learn. I'm hungry to see all your instruction videos. Thank you.
Gene, thank you for posting this video. Out of all the videos I seen online on how to set up a RD, yours by far was the most simplest to comprehend. Prior to this I had no idea what the B tension screw was for and now I do. Great video...
AT LAST! I finally got the hang of adjusting derailleurs. BEST how to video EVER! Dumb me for taking forever to learn, and making IT HARDER than it needs to be! THANKS guy!
Mate.......................... I watched a number of video's on how to do this until I found yours. Yours was the only one that explained how to do and explained why. Thank you my gears now work.
Well done, breaking it and fixing it was extremely helpful! I'm actually confidant I can make this adjustment myself now! All the other video's on this particular subject just confused me!! I was afraid to mess with the real derailleur because I thought I would make things worse!!!
I've battled with out of tune derailers for years until finally I've been shown the right way, wow thank you! Explaining from the start that you can only adjust those two sprockets is what clarified it all for me. Can't ell you how happy this has made me.
Thank you very much for your time to prepare for this tutorial. For me, this is one of the best explained vids of how to adjust the rear derailleur with many details.
Out of all the detailure adjustment video's on tube this is the best one. It explains everything, show's everything without a hand in the way. Very helpful. Got my new detailure setup perfect. Thanks
One of the best videos of the rear derailleur adjustments, easy to understand and more importantly even novice users like me are able to fix read derailleur confidently after watching this video. Thanks a TON.
You have no idea the amount of time I've been trying to learn this, I regularly maintain mine and other bikes, but indexing. That scared me. I had watched so many videos, but this one went in and I finally t it. Thank you so much
Eureka!! I’ve watched a lot of videos on this topic AND this is by far the simplest, most understandable, and direct to the point instructions!! Highly recommended! All I need now is a repair stand. More power and good luck.
I was fighting to adjust my gears but thank god this video helps me a lot to understand how to set up my derraileur, his explanation was clear and simple
Thanks for that. I just bought my first bike in 35 years. Riding last night and shifted it right past the lowest gear (biggest ring). Now I can adjust it.
Very well explained. I looked at a lot of videos before I found this one. I need to go no farther now. This one explained the whole concept for me. Thank you!
I finally managed to adjust the rear derailleur correctly. Definitely thanks to your instructions which are understandable, clear, efficient, logical and illustrative. MANY THANKS.
As simple as this looks (conceptually), making the proper adjustment is pretty complicated for a newbie. And I've watched number of TH-cam videos , but by far this the best demonstration and explanation. Great video and I'm a new subscriber now.
I'd been putting off watching this video because my derailleur has been working with no issues. Today it played from my Watch Later Playlist, and it was very informative! You did a great job showing what each adjustment screw does, how it works, and how to set it correctly. I think you also made a great point by showing how (with care) it won't be a problem to go through a trial and error phase. Awesome job, Gene!
Excellent i replaced my right shimano combi brake shifter in no time ,was delaying the repair till i came across this film made it so simple and clear thanks
Best derailleur adjustment video I have seen. I have struggled with all the other tutorials but this one is one step above. I finally learned to tune my derailleur thanks to you. Liked and subscribed.
life saver, its been ages since ive worked on a bike let alone a bike with gears. BMX background but dabbled in MTBs. Here I am almost 40 and now decided to get a MTB and do a little light shredding. SOOOO with that wanted to update my components since i blew some of the stock ones up. Anyways, wow yeah makes sense and very well done. I love how you show how when its screwed up, seriously helps a ton. Awesome demo, thank you !
Very good video. I have watched several and wasn't very confident I could do this. Your video was easy to understand and not as overly complicated and confusing as the other videos. Thank you for posting!!!
This was the video I needed I think. I’m new to bikes and everything was rusted so we replaced the breaks and the shifter and the grips since they were worn but haven’t been able to fix the derailleur
So happy to help my friend! Hey, if there is anything else you would like to learn about please send me an email! Your ideas and support are both so valuable to the channel. Thank you! gene@rgmtb.com
The best tutorial on the derailleur adjustments. minute things like the mention of clicking sound while adjusting screws makes it even more easier for beginners like me
Actually your explanation was one of the best I've seen. Thank you. I am a small bike shop owner and my master technician died suddenly in April and I've decided to retrain starting from scratch .
Thank you so much for your video. I just bought a new derailer for the rear and with your video I don’t think I will have any problems replacing the rear derailer.
Hey bud I really enjoyed your video :) I love that it’s not scripted and you’re just a guy trying to help your fellow mountain bikers. And as for the info SO HELPFUL , this stuff gets very confusing when ure new to it
Thanks. I was able to adjust my rear derailer to hit all gears up and down fine. Only problem is that last biggest gear. You didn't mention which screw to adjust. So, I went as far up as I could on the shifter, and adjusted another screw next to the first one you mentioned and it jumped up.
nice video, a tip I have used over the years on a 9 speed rear cassette is after your limits have been set I will shift to the middle or 5th cog, and make sure my derailleur jockey(middle) wheel is inline with the 5th gear or if you have an 11 speed you can use the 6th gear as this is the middle of the cog set it is the balance point of cable tension on the shifter vs spring tension on the derailleur
Holly shit no one explains it the way you do. I watched three others Xperts, I still can figure out why my gear was jumping and my tension at the handle bar was all the way in. Adjusted the limit screws etc. etc. I did exactly what you said from beginning to end, my shifting is smoother than the day I bought the bike from the shop. I even took the bike back after a month and ask about the shifting not smooth, the so call tech.. turn the barrel adjuster but still didn’t fix the issue entirely. This isn’t a cheap bike either. Those guys at WHEEL AND SPROCKET ALL NEED TO WATCH YOUR VIDEO!! Subscribed!!
That is just a super video, and this gentleman communicates very well. I'm a new mountain biker, and although I'm very handy with lots of things, did not yet understand how gears can be adjusted. My Shimano adjustment screws don't look exactly like this, but they are pretty close to this. Now I've got something to sink my teeth into. Keep up the good work!
Thank You! My kids bike has a crap derailleur and I was having a horrible time, other videos were not explaining the purpose of the screws well enough so I couldn't make the correlation between what I was seeing and what they were doing on higher end bikes. Great explanation and now I can perfectly align his gears without throwing the chain as well as a slew of curse words!
@@nocheesable2345 Yes, but when you need to buy a new bike every year that gets used for 4 months, you don't typically spend good money on a higher end bike.
I watched another video and it stunk. I then watched yours and it was so simple when I followed your instructions. You use simple terms and don’t have to be a bike expert to understand it. When I did it the way you described, it worked perfectly! Thank you for doing such a great job!
12:00 After years, you explain how to shift the chain on to the largest cog. Nobody else has made it as clear as you. Now I can pedal off from a dead stop easily!
Awesome video, my rear derailleur took a knock during a ride and through it out, video was brilliant to help re-tune it and get it back to smooth shifting 🤙
You might be a "regular guy", but this video was more helpful than any of the pro videos I saw by the major channels. Thanks for explaining some new things!
