This is a tutorial showing you how to make paper out of corn husks. Paper is made out of the fiber from plants and corn husk has lots of great fiber. I show you how to break down the husk using soda ash and heating in water. Then I show you how to form the pulp into sheets of paper.
Looking for an introduction to paper making? Something simple that anyone can do? I have a great beginners tutorial right here: • How to Make Home Made ...

Microwaving corn in the husk doesn't take as long and uses less energy than boiling the cob and kernels.

If you have a wood burning stove or fireplace you can use wood ash in place of soda ash. I would sift it to get the ash as fine as possible.

I would roll it out over linen, because you can dry the linen and repeat. You can also get the linen in large sheets, and cut to size, to just stack sheet after sheet after sheet. I would also try to get the pulp finer, and maybe try to peroxide bleach it.

Soda Ash is NOT as dangerous as you are making it out to be. Being cautious doesn't hurt anything but this stuff isn't lye, its not gonna burn your skin if you get a little on you. I make a mix of Soda Ash and Borax, I uses it as detergent both for laundry and dishes, I sometimes scrub my hands with it, its perfectly safe to handle.

    • @boburnham6383

Richard Powell some people aren't bothered by it (like you and me) but it can burn the more sensitive people.
