  • In this one, we head out with ‪@MontanaRockMom‬ on a very overcast and rainy day to do some Yellowstone river rockhounding. I was a bit discouraged at first because the agates seemed to be a bit scarce, so I instead shifted my sites to anything that caught my eye. It's amazing how the instant you stop looking for something specific, all of the other treasures jump out at you! We found incredible jaspers, petrified and agatized wood, and some absolutely phenomenally detailed agates! The finds might not have been as large as normal but the quality MORE than made up for it! Red plume agate, green orbicular jasper, red agatized wood, one alien looking green hued agate, and the treasure of the day, one absolutely breath taking blue banded Montana Agate! It was one fantastic day and I hope you enjoy it with me!

    What a fun trip with agate mom. Lots of pet, JASPER, and agates, but those blues knocked my socks off. The green looked good on the show and tell yesterday but the green showed up better here. Be happy, safe and stay healthy 😷⚒

    “Giday” Theo, what to say about that hunting trip, what a day chasing rocks, some really good agates, some outstanding Jaspers and that “blue” what a stunner. I have become a fan of Jasper recently simply because of the variety of colour and form that can be found, every colour in the rainbow and so many different internal formations. The best of the day and one of the best I have seen on this media has to be that blue, Rookie’s blue chalcedony is outstanding but that one just takes it to a different level. I hope MRM had as good a day as you. This was a real captivating video with so many stunning pieces. Somewhere on that river is the other parts of that stone, 😜👍 only a couple of millions of tons of rock to sift through. 😂😂
    Keep Safe & Keep Rockin

    • @TheoKellison
      @TheoKellison  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree!😄 i never used to think much of jasper until i started finding more of them and now im just in love with the stuff; never wind up with 2 pieces that look the same!😄 and man would i love to find the rest of that blue😂its out there somewhere!🤣 thanks so much for watching!😄

    Awesome finds! I've been watching Y'all who hound the Yellowstone, I'm quite jealous. I've been eyeballing the maps, and it's about 400 miles one way for me to get there. When do you think is the best time of year to visit?

    • @TheoKellison
      @TheoKellison  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Best times are definitely August to October(that can vary a bit depending on our current winter and fall weather situation; sometimes we get snow in October, sometimes we dont get snow til december so that just depends on whenever winter decides to show up😅) and march to early may👍 typically winter is a no go because its pretty miserable rock hunting in negative temps when everything is frozen to the ground😅 and late may-mid july is runofff so there isnt much bank to hunt. Hope you can make it out sometime!😄

    We are planning a group trip to the Yellowstone River from British Columbia, and were looking at water flows. It looks like the first of August on it is pretty low and easy to traverse the bars. You say that the normal temperature for (date on video is Aug 7, and you speak of) 'yesterday' was in the 70's and 'today' (Aug 8?) is normal at 97F. Am I correct in assuming that this would be extremely hot normally?
    Could you suggest some other time? Our season is usually May thru Sept, and we have other rockhounding trips planned of course, so we would really appreciate your prompt response.
    We all love your channel, all are subscribed to you and to Agate Angler, and others among the group. Keep up the fantastic work. You are our inspirations, and we have learned so much about the rocks there, and your rivers. We meet and see who can pick out your rock before you do, and describe it before you do. Food prizes each show!

    Anyone trying to get your object to focus, just put a back floor car mat in black for light images and use a large piece of felt or a pillow case in white for dark images. Your camera will focus on the most prominent item. Your hands being wet also reflect which confuses the camera.

    Have you ever tried digging down to look for Agates? I'm sure there is at least 3-5 feet of those rocks down under that sand in some areas. Imagine what is under the sand.

      A little slower showing the agates would be nice, even if it's just on the nicer ones.

    Wow that blue agate breathtaking. And i love the large one with the green tinge. Also cant wait to see the agate with green parts cut. And question. When you cut your agates to get the iris effect do you cut them thin? Or thick and polish them down? Or is it just the type of agate you are cutting?
