    My Grandad Percy John Withers, served with the Essex Yeomanry Cavalry regiment in WW1 having joined up at 18 in 1917. He was shot in the face in some engagement or other - His record records "GSW face" ie gun shot wound face and he was discharged in 1918. My dad Ronald Alan Withers served in the REME late 40's early 50's in the far east, he drove a Diamond T recovery truck with a trailer.

    Lovely video indeed! Grandad was REME and went into Normandy on D+6, driving Scammells and Diamond T’s during his time in Service. I’d never really got into what he did until recently, so the TH-cam vids on all things “heavy metal” have been interesting, especially some of the original Army “How to do it” one’s! 🤪👍🏻👍🏻 ATB to you! 👍🏻👍🏻

    Glad to see people driving these trucks properly, not revving the nuts of them and trying to force them to go in gear!

    I had the pleasure of collecting and returning the LVT to War And Peace froma veryScienic Oxfordshire,in 2014,lovely bit of kit on its own converted trailer. It ll look the dogs behind the T, instead of a brand new CF DAF!

    Dave, This is the first time I saw your YWE footage ....that was a great trip. Me and Peg went on to Scotland and ended our trip at War and Peace.

    Just identified the bridge at Shepley at 20.05 which was just after a down hill into, a 90 right. half way down that hill is a dilapidated garage with a rag top 969 at the rear.

    Is that 981 one of the original Diamond Ts that had a Fifth wheel put on by the army during WW2?

      Josh Markham no it was a post war mod from what I've been told but this truck has the ballast box, he just did this to it to tow the trailer.

      Would be a very wise thing to build it that way from the start and convert the front of the Rogers trailer into a swanneck!
      Such combination would make a lot more sence: same load capacity, much better manouvrable, more stable, shorter length and lower overall weight.
      But they seemed to wish a tent on the spot where the 5th wheel needed to be.

    Is it just me or does anybody else notice that most, (not all so no hate please) of WWII vehicle videos from Europe are mostly American trucks, tanks, tractors Jeeps etc.? Didn't European equipment last?

    • @AntiSnowman14
      @AntiSnowman14  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Bill Lepore lots of British equipment left, just a lot more American over there to start out with.
