I used to cry a lot too. I never wanted to be in kindergarten, most days I would cry a lot about it. I remember one time, I was sitting on a tiny carpet next to my kindergarten teacher, completely minding my own business, when she insisted me to go play with other children, I started crying, 'cause I did not want to go. I found it challenging to "play" with others, and loved doing solitary things instead. I've had a couple of childhood "friends" who would just drag me along to do activities they wanted to do. As I started school, I remember adults in my life insisting me to go out and play with other kids and so on, not that I wanted to, but because they wanted me out of the house. I would have rather stayed indoors, by myself or with the adults. I always found being around adults more relaxing than "hanging out" with children, as they didn't bother me as much I guess.
With the crying, I got bashed for that a lot. My parents and close ones used to say "...Why are you crying, AGAIN...", until I learned that it bothered them a lot, so I stopped doing that, and hiding it. I actually don't think I could have expressed how I felt and why I felt what I felt in words, so I used crying as a way of letting them know that something was not right.
I am 27 now, not diagnosed, but I accidentally stumbled upon autism/asperger's, and a lot of the resreach I have done, has shed a lot of light onto my life experiences and why I have felt so out of place or behaved in certain ways, even now. It is truly amazing to learn about yourself and it takes a lot of pressure off from trying to "fit in" to the outside norms, whereas the only place to fit in is within ourselves :)
Thank you for your time and energy, very much appreciated!

I used to think camouflaging and masking were terms to be used interchangeably. Thank you for distinguishing them, and giving examples of the three types of camouflaging

doctors dont want to spend that much time with their patients because they have quotas to meet, thats why they were brushing you off so much.
You probably would've had an easier time getting diagnosed in Canada.

Hi Rachel, great video. As a child were you nonverbal? My son just got diagnosed he's 3 years old and is nonverbal.

Hi, I was not nonverbal as a child, but I did have trouble communicating my needs.
