Trivium is an interesting band for me. They hit all the genres and sounds I like but, for the most part, I just can't get in to them. Whether it's the flow, the song writing or something else entirely I just don't have an ear for them. Meanwhile, throw me a Polish black metal band who I have no idea what they are talking about and I'm totally in to it.
Except The Phalanx. Everything about it is just so amazingly good. The sound, the pace and the lyrics come together to form an epic experience which, in spite of my opinion of them, makes me a Trivium fan.
Music is complicated!
Side note: I love how some of the best drummers just look like regular dudes. Alex Bent and Danny Carey look like the kind of people you could have a beer with at a BBQ talking about lawns.

Try listening it instrumental only. Matt has amazing voice, and I love listening to him, but there is some frequency in his voice that does not hit with everyone. That is changed since his problems after he blew his vocal chords and had to do surgery, which is before this song, so this might be why you like it. His voice is completely different now.
