You are sweet on those keys but I would tell all these musicians that it's a waste of valuable time wanting to be considered sweet in Gospel. It puts no money in your pocket. It doesn't cause your money to grow. Gospel is at the bottom 9f the music share. Plus who gives a flip whether you are advanc3d or not. It's all ego driven. I make great money in one day playing the song not playing 10% the song 90% embellishment. Maturity will not allow you to solo with chord changes through the whole song. Learn to play the song as written. Get your money. Don't stress because you don't sound like "so and so". Just play the song. The band will appreciate it. The singer will really appreciate it.
There's a balance to it, but I will agree with you on learning the foundation of the song as is FIRST. Why?? Because most settings don't pay you for fanciness, but simply knowing your material. Remember, most of your audience aren't musicians so they can't really tell the difference anyway 🤷🏾♂️🤣
