....Okay...I am not really a big fan of BEG, but after listening to this new song, I can understand what makes them stay and be influential in the music industry for this long. I was captivated by the variety of elements (instrumental, jazz etc.) and how they are combined in this song. It has a very late 70s groove and BEG has once again raised a new level of music quality in Kpop.
Honestly, i don't understand why this album didn't sell well as their other albums, I personally think Basic album is one of the best maybe come after Sound-G, the concept is unique and good, Brave New World is really refreshing, Warmhole is not just something that any other girl groups can produce even until now, Fractal is a light and nice song and Light is inspiring, other songs in the album are quite good as well, BEG always produced something that not just any groups can produce, They always experimenting.That's how they stay relevant. I really love this album, I still hope it gets the recognition it deserved :(
This album had KILLER sound -- I *loved* how innovative it was and how much they played with distortion and modulation. I only bought Abracadabra off their other one, but this album I actually went through the effort to buy whole because all the songs were bangers.
I was there when it was released and maybe my opinion is not solid since i was only a young highschool teenager at that time, but this song is really hard to grasp at the time it was released. It was the time when easily catchy songs were released back to back so complicated songs like this might not get more attention. But listening again this is masterpiece.

These queens dropped one of the best and most unique albums of the year and the video is only at 2 million. So unappreciated. I haven't been listening to kpop as long as others and even I can recognize the awesome stuff the senior groups put out.
This video is, hopefully, based off of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. The book warns against control of society by government based technology and the elimination of happiness and understanding of the world. In the mv, the girls are listening to commands through cords stuck in the apple. The apple represents primitive human instincts of curiosity(Adam&Eve's curiosity for knowledge which led to them to eat the fruit). They are in the car, which is hopefully a Ford model(Henry Ford created the assembly line), which creates them into mindless human clones(hence they wear the same clothes while dancing). In the book, Ford is mentioned as a 'God' figure and eliminates other forms of religious higher beings, also eliminating the stories and mysteries that come with those religions. Although the car has turned the girls into clones, the apple they listened to sparks their primitive need of curiosity for knowledge of the world. Suddenly their "paradigm shifts" and they realize the world has much more to offer than stoic, cold control from technology(the dark room with linear beams of light they were dancing in in the beginning). Their clothes become more flamboyant and individualized as they venture out into the world, discovering more and questioning everything("why am I so serious? Why don't you be curious?"). The "Ford" god-figure no longer exists and the girls wonder about "who made the secret all about the world," questioning religion and thus the wonders that come with it. In the novel, weather could not be manipulated, so the government manipulated how people viewed the world by drugging them with soma, a drug that induces pleasure and instant gratification. The girls are able to view weather with color later in the mv, as before there was no color. The 'government' had distorted all aspects of time(in the car), information(the girls keep questioning everything), weather(no color), etc. The 4 cornucopias, which represent 'plenty', the girls stay in and then come out of transform them and give them the plentiful knowledge of the world. In the end of the mv, everything reverts back to the apple which was the fruit of their knowledge and curiosity, the root of human nature itself.

Wish we could bring back the classic era of K-Pop girl groups. It’s not hard to figure out what the secret formula is. There’s a clue in this tune where there’s a nod to a past Michael Jackson hit in the string sound used. The best songs were distillations of dance hits from the ‘70s and ‘80s with modern production, studio techniques, instruments and hooks thrown in. Will probably take another 20 years to cycle back into vogue.

It topped 4 charts so it's being receipted well in Korea (LIKE IT SHOULD) in just annoyed all the people here. BEG is always innovative and people are so afraid of something different. BEG doesn't need Jea yelling out and Miryo's rap to be face-hittin fierce (and they had the nerve to say it was following trends, which I scoffed at because I have yet to hear any female rapper/idol rap like that. About Miryo, she has maybe Best flow of kpop female rappers, she really can deliver emotions when it is needed, she can be fearce, sexy or very nostalgic. Her live solo performances are brilliant. Im so happy that they are doing good on charts. For me its the kpop song of the year.
velvirek Basic is definitely the most creative album of the year and maybe the best album of the year. Too bad it came out too late for award season though. Not that it would matter, too many teeny boppers vote for the same people over and over again when their stuff wasn't even as amazing as it claimed to be. BEG tried something new and experiments each comeback, writes their own music, and picks their own concept. They're the biggest inspirations in Kpop imo.

*the hands down best kpop album of 2015.* 2015 kpop had me on a chokehold, but this is the best album. i am very passionate about this. i am very nostalgic. also been in the kpop community for a really long time. i have been blessed by them in person so that’s why i am alive in 2021.
Coming from an older K-pop fan who's been here for a while, Brown Eyed Girls and Wonder Girls are the only comebacks this year that bring back memories when K-pop was the best.

"New and original" will never suit everyone's tastes though, I think that's the issue here... she is singing to a completely different tempo than the music, it's really offputting and bold, it grabs everyone's attention but not everyone will like the strangeness of it. 이번 앨범 컨셉 되게 잘잡았다 신세계도 타이틀로도 적절하고 브아걸이 할수 있는 걸 보여주는 느낌이라 맘에들음 , 5집은 좀 많이 과했고 3집만큼은 아니지만 2집떄부터 들어왔던 팬으로썬 좋다 ㅜㅁ ㅠ, 미료 랩 파트도 다른노래랑 다르게 되게 독특해서 좋고

The best songs were distillations of dance hits from the ‘70s and ‘80s with modern production, studio techniques, instruments and hooks thrown in. Will probably take another 20 years to cycle back into vogue.

I know we all have our own tastes but this song is simply perfection, like, higher than anything I heard this year. The mixing, the arrangement of the backtrack and vocals, the choice of contemporary sounds mixed with disco and funk and THOSE. HARMONIES... *quietly sobbing* I literally cried when Miryo did her rap (which was dope as fee-ak!) It topped 4 charts so it's being receipted well in Korea (LIKE IT SHOULD) in just annoyed all the people here. BEG is always innovative and people are so afraid of something different. BEG doesn't need Jea yelling out and Miryo's rap to be face-hittin fierce (and they had the nerve to say it was following trends, which I scoffed at because I have yet to hear any female rapper/idol rap like that. Her flow was A++++++) ughhh. People can't understand the artistry behind this.

About Miryo, she has maybe Best flow of kpop female rappers, she really can deliver emotions when it is needed, she can be fearce, sexy or very nostalgic. Her live solo performances are brilliant. Im so happy that they are doing good on charts. For me its the kpop song of the year.
velvirek Basic is definitely the most creative album of the year and maybe the best album of the year. Too bad it came out too late for award season though. Not that it would matter, too many teeny boppers vote for the same people over and over again when their stuff wasn't even as amazing as it claimed to be. BEG tried something new and experiments each comeback, writes their own music, and picks their own concept. They're the biggest inspirations in Kpop imo.

"New and original" will never suit everyone's tastes though, I think that's the issue here... she is singing to a completely different tempo than the music, it's really offputting and bold, it grabs everyone's attention but not everyone will like the strangeness of it. Because mark my words, it's strange.
I like strange though, I don't need to hear the same mainstream rap beat in every friggin k-pop song these days. A little variety is a good thing.
