Interesting comparison. Thanks. Hey Glen, do you have some big batch cocktails for upcoming holiday parties? I have some go to recipes, but I'd love some new ideas. I usually prepare a jar of the base ingredients ahead of time, then add bubbles or other "volatile" ingredients just before serving. What are your favourites?
We've got a couple of cocktail themed parties coming up in December - we're thinking of batching some Tequila and Mescal cocktails. Pretty much everything works, just remember to add water in the place of dilution you'd normally get from shaking / stirring with ice. The 1800s cocktail books all have batch cocktail recipes in them, it was super popular back then.
I have 10 or more books in my collection from the 1800s dedicated to teaching bartenders / saloon owners how to fool customers into thinking that the cheap ________ (whiskey, brandy, port, wine, etc) was top shelf. Even how to use additives to turn cheap whiskey into brandy, or cheap brandy into whiskey.
I approach the Oracle of Wisdom with a quest! My daughter introduced me to Jeppson's Malört. This concoction was so bitter and vile I coughed and couldn't catch my breath for 10 minutes. Is there any cocktail in creation made with Jeppson's Malört that is anything but paint stripper?
It looked like you reversed the gin/vermouth ratios in both drinks. At least as compared to the recipe you showed in the book. Of course I might be misunderstanding what 1/3 and 2/3 mean.
I didn't know what old tom gin was, or how it was different to London dry. Apparently it's not as sweet as Dutch Jenever. Do you have any cocktails with Dutch Jenever?
I’d love a tour of the contents of your liquor cabinet-it must be as well-stocked as some bars!
cheers! 🥂

@@CocktailsAfterDark Thanks. Videos!! I need videos. 🏺
The Glen!
Happy U.S. Thanksgiving!
Club Glen! 😊
Wasn't gomme originally used to smooth out the taste of cheap whiskey? Maybe that's why bartenders were loath to mention that they were using gomme.

@@CocktailsAfterDark I'd love to see some videos about that
Where did you get the Chartreuse?
We live in Toronto; so the LCBO usually has it. But we also get to Quebec once every couple of months and the SAQ will have it when the LCBO doesn't.

Yeah, I felt compelled to go back and check this myself.

It’s really hard to FIND genever, in my experience, at least around here (Boston area). I’ve only ever seen it in a couple specialty liquor stores.
Ah, but it could be called "Glen's Place" after all,it is a club, is it not!
