Thank you for making your lectures available to the general public, I have enjoyed them. Moreover, I have a better understanding about philosophical argumentation as well as philosophical terms.
Another fun game to play with the definition "God is a being than which none greater can be imagined". Given that all human imagination is limited, then there cannot be any god greater than the greatest human imagination of God, and it is that God whose existence is proven i.e. a God of limited greatness.
I’m new to philosophy, so trying to get my head around this compelling argument. The argument essentially boils down to the definition. By identifying god as that which nothing can be greater, the contradiction stems from the fact that nothing can be greater than that which nothing is greater. Therefore, he cannot exist only in the mind, as there would be something that existed in reality, which would be greater than that which nothing can be greater? Would anybody be able to provide a more definitive philosophical definition?
I'm following your lectures one by one everyday it's amazing and again I thank you for these valuable lessons and I love the way you teaching and explains every detail. you are a wonderful teacher.and I also have a doubt if it's possible could you give me an short answer. in this video you said god is not big or good but power and potency what if the gods power is their influence and god's potency is influential and it's like political parties who's trying to make the people to believe or trying to get them to accept their agendas. like gods are the candidates and we are the voters.maybe it's just a silly question but I just wondering because god's refer to us as all loving caring and treat everyone equal but when we look deep into the religious texts they do take sides and crucified those who do not believe their ways. what I'm trying to say is the power of god's comes from their influence in people or as you said god's can do great things which make them all powerful?
i doubt that they have the word god in their vocabulary/dictionary. so here’s a possible dialogue: the dudes: do you believe in god? the aliens: god? what do you mean by god?
Interestingly if I replace God with Superman, the existence of Superman is proven. However if I replace God with Zeus (the god of gods), the existence of God is disproven, as now we have two gods, nether if which are greater than the other.
I think he says if it is actual , being possible is not right anymore. It is actual and hence it is not just a possibility. But if we imagine the example of pen that the professor used, it is actually there on the desk. Is it correct to say that it is possible for the pen to be on the desk ? At this moment as far as the proof is concerned, we are trying to find out if the penis 'actually ' there on the table.. So let's imagine that at this point, the pen is invisible (may be covered with some substance) and we are trying to find out the presence of the pen. At this juncture, we can say it is possible for the pen to be on the table. In reality that doesn't mean that it is not actually on the table..
The student was arguing that it is possible the something to not exist. Which is correct. However not a argument against the possibility of something to exist - which the lecture is all all out.

The starting of these lectures gives me enough time to untangle my headphones
Could understanding the philosophy of other cultures be the key to solving global conflicts?
Students had corona before corona.

Kant refuted that argument in simply showing that existence is not a predicate.
Or so Kant claimed... -- 🙂, Jack
Why the startTreck dudes did not ask the aliens, if they believe in god?
I guess they should have...8^)....
I was thinking the exact same thing!

Santa's not real?!?!??
Sorry...
You can be a married bachelor,,
How?
İf I just sign a piece of paper for marriage but live the life of a bachelor,,
That'd make you married. Whether you spend time with your wife or not, you're still married in that situation and by definition not a bachelor
@@TremendousSax you would be a bachelor in practice
God both transcends and inherent in reality
To believe in God you must have faith.
Jesus is Lord.
I think trying to prove God logically is in vain,, God(Allah) is also the creator of the laws of logic,, thus transcends it,,
Jesus Christ is the proof of God the Holy trinity.
Delightfully useless, as is all philosophy.
