    Under the car is far more dangerious, you could get a foot etc. caught up somewhere. I have no problem with hanging from properly designed, certified and inspected climbing gear.

    • @benolifts
      @benolifts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I completely agree. I asked the question to see what people perceived as more dangerous. It is interesting seeing what responses I got. When at the top of the shaft the risks are positioning yourself when the lift goes up to the top floor. When underneath the lift car you are at risk the entire time of swinging too far to the side and having an accident.

    What are the springs at the bottom for if the lift doesn't go that far down?

    • @petercdowney
      @petercdowney ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think they're to stop the lift if it goes into freefall. They absorb some of the force of the impact so that the occupants of the lift don't get it quite as bad.

    • @TheAeroflyGuy
      @TheAeroflyGuy ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually, they are mainly designed to stop the lift comfortably if the motor does not stop. Ultimately, there is a computer of some sort operating the lift, and if it has a glitch, and the motor doesn't slow down, then the springs will comfortably stop the lift from its operating speed. If the lift free fell, especially from the very top, the springs wouldn't do very much, the occupants would likely be quite injured, and the lift would probably have to be rebuilt to some extent.

    I find both scary, because what if it fell on top of you but the chances of that are very low and there are breaks, so why am I even talking about that or what if it came down too far or you got stuck on Spring crushed you forward the brakes failed. And It started shooting the car upward.

      There isn't much chance of banging your head. The main risks are...
      1. Swinging sideways on the rope and getting crushed.
      2. Human error as you are relying on your friends to control the lift.
      3. Getting caught by security.
      4. The attachment for the harness being unsuitable.
      5. Human error on using the equipment incorrectly.
