I never knew this was how Dual accomplished pitch control with a synchronous motor. What a genius solution.

Great video. I've got a Dual 506-cs that sounds great but the strobe light was always slowly moving backwards. The pitch control did nothing. I was going to get a new deck but thought I'd take the motor apart as per your video. 30 minutes later I've got the speed spot on and the pitch can be adjusted to speed up and slow down the turntable. Well happy. Thanks a lot.

Dual turn tables were pretty popular,as far as a live that shouldn't ever bum up is super lube, synthetic lubricate with teflon ptfe ,and they also make teflon grease, right now I keep on hand is rock and roll teflon grease, some old types of grease and oils will sooner or later the up that's why I like synthetics, stuff with ptfe in it ,that was amazing repair ,I new they used a strobe ,didn't no how it worked, the only thing I use to have was this paper disk with a orange light to tell you if your speed was correct,I got it from radio shack ,it was handy for me .I do love watching your videos

It is actually genius (thats German engineering for you)
Since the motor is an induction type you can't vary the speed of the motor.you have few choices. With the rim drive they just used a sloped drive shaft and moved the idler up and down, but that won't work for a belt, So lets just expand the pulley slightly.

I followed your video and did the best I could I think. I had to guess on placement of the split collar back on the shift and re tighten the 2 set screws. I used rubbing alcohol as u did on the shaft and a very minute bit of white gun grease on the spring-loaded rod in the split gear. I even set the pitch in the middle for a perfect rotation either way as u did in the end of the video. Now tho, playback is static and broken, like a bad connection. I've checked the ground and ruled out the receiver. (Hooked up another record player). If u have any suggestions, I'd really appreciate them. Cheers 🍻

I have a 521 and was lucky to find an original notched belt a couple years back and it's still good.
I did have to replace mr.steuerpimpel just the other day. Was an interesting process but well worth the undertaking.
I've seen were peeps are substituting orings for notched belts with success.
      I do love my 521.
I bought it new. Has an AT 14sa cartridge.
Wished it was the V15 Type IV, but I gave that away years ago.
2 completely different sounds, both good though.
      Used the AT for recording.

Awsomly awsome, really like these repair videos. Could you use a light lithium grease in the bearings? Or would grease attract dust more than oil? Thank you so much for sharing your skills, I really could watch you vids 24/7, 365. Thank you

No I wouldn't use grease on these. Perhaps an old BSR plastic platter type with the ball bearing under it, but not a precision bearing.

that was an informative video thank you. But just a question you said that you can't but oil an the shaft because it would get on the belt, that's ok I understand. In that moment I thought of an other lubricant that could work, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Wouldn't graphite powder be usable on that part?

I changed my motor to an 860 on my 1237 that I had for parts. Got a new toothed belt and it only changes speed on the pitch to the far plus on the dial, and nothing to the neg. I thought it probably needed adjusting. Also after my complete overhaul, the cueing and the Stop Switch on longer operate. Everything else works as it should. 5.5 nut driver on the nut ?

    • @12voltvids

I got into electronics when I was 7. By the time I was 13 I had built a digital clock (Heathkit GC1005) and single trace oscilloscope. When I was 17 I built a B/W TV camera from scratch from a set of plans sold through ATV Research. They sold a kit back in the day. When I say "Kit" it was a bag of parts, stencil layout for the PCBoard and a few pre cut pieces of aluminum to make the cabinet out of. They didn't even etch the circuit board. They supplied a blank board with a mask that I stuck down on the board and peeled the back off then tossed the board into the ferric acid to etch it. Then remove the remainder of the mask, drill the holes, mount all the parts, wind the focus and yoke coils by hand. Dam I wish I still had that camera, but as a CCTV camera (and a relative large one at that because it used a big 1" vidicon tube) I was using it as a CCTV camera and had it mounted looking in my parents front yard. One friday night it vanished. I was really pissed because I built it. Insurance replaced it with a commercial camera which had a much better picture but still. I am also an amateur radio operator. Have had my license for over 30 years. Working an a DMR radio unboxing and set up. If I can find the time to learn how to program the dam thing.

I love your videos!!! Sorry to bug with a question but the pitch control on my dual 1246 is freaking out. Since your Dual 510 has a similar set up, I cleaned the whole pitch control and motor (and lubricated). The pitch control itself seems fine but when I switch from 33 to a 45 and back to a 33, doing so throws the speed completely out of wack-and won’t work in either 45 or 33. So I play a 33 and a 45 fine the first go, but when I go from the 45 setting back to a 33, the 33 sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks :( The pin looks fine, I kept these parts dry and clean-- but the shaft (brass?) has one of the 7 fins/slats jutting out a hair from the others. Maybe I need a new shaft, the pitch works, just the switch from the 45 to 33 is not. Thank you again, love your channel!!!

I had a question for you. I have a Tuscan DA-30 Dat machine and when I load a tape I get a error on the screen. So I cannot play tape or do anything. What might you think this might be please?

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tascam DA30 you say.
The biggest problem with those is that tiny loading belt that you have to buy from Tascam. Yes it is available, at least it was last year when I got one for mine.
If you get Mecha Com Err check the 5 volt regulator. That was popped on the unit I picked up. I have a video on both the belt replacement and that regulator problem on the channel, but mine is a DA-40 which is a step up, but uses same transport.
