The Fergus Falls Insane Asylum - A Beautiful Place with a Dark History

As you drive along Interstate 94 through Fergus Falls, if you look closely, you will notice three tall spires along the skyline. Do you wonder what is there? These three spires represent the corners of the old Fergus Falls Insane Asylum, which housed thousands of patients from 1890 through 2007. This massive brick complex was a community within a community. To care for and treat thousands of patients, it needed doctors, nurses, administrators, kitchens, sleeping quarters, and a laundry. It even had its own power plant and specialized hospitals. Since the complex closed in 2007, various uses have been found for some of the remaining brick buildings.
