An excellent walk-through. I bought a used Fire 8.9" through Amazon which came in perfect condition - not even a fingerprint - but nothing showing where the buttons are nor how to get started, so I wish I had found this video sooner.

Thanks for making this expo of the kindle Fire HD . It was very informative,and understandably since there is so much to the device, you tend to speak fast and so I needed to go back and review some of the lesser known tricks like moving things into the documents file and your confirmation that I when u install an alternative web browser like Dolphin ,that u can still use the silk one as well was great info!

you can take photos in the photos tab on the home screen and theres an option to display the battery percent in the top right corner by the battery

i bought one of these when they first came out. it still works great . the case i bought at the same time actually bit the dust first lol .
I like the Kindle Fire. I bought a 7" model for my girlfriend for Xmas and liked it so much I bought myself one a few months ago (the 8.9" model).
I only wish Amazon had incorporated a conductive charge feature where you could place it on a charge mat. Plugging in the micro USB is a hassle, especially when you are half a sleep. :P
very informative thank you for posting it am really buying this tablet for my daughter anf am hoping i will be able copy her dvd on to the kindle and also download and watch later.
I was going to get one of these, but the reason I wanted an E-reader was so I wasn't distracted by anybody texting me or stuff on my phone (I used my phone for reading my books) so I wanted a kindle, as I've never had a E-reader before and was advised they were great quality. I felt that the Kindle Fire had too much options like my phone that I'd find too distracting - the apps and facebook - I just wanted to read my books. So I got the paperwhite instead. Hope I made a good choice!
I love my paperwhite! I can just sit there, on the train, on the bus wherever I am.
Nobody can bother me, text me nobody can distract me, apps can't distract me.
I can buy my books, read and enjoy the time doing so. :)
I'm glad I didn't buy ANOTHER tablet reader type thing, if I wanted that I'd get a bigger version of my android
When you want to take a photo with your camera, instead of downloading a camera app, just click "photos" on the top bar and a camera icon will appear. Click that and it will bring you straight to the camera.
I love actual books yes, but I read really fast and was spending so much time waiting in a shop line to buy the book.
With a Kindle I can hold all the books in one place, and if I finish it at night, I can buy a new one straight away. :)

No matter what type of media...movies, music, books, photos and web pages look better and sound better on the Kindle Fire HD than any iPad
yes you can buy in the US and it will work in the UK. I recently purchased one in the US and I live in South Africa and it works, the only thing is for us in Africa is that the apps games are are not available in our country which is quite aggravating, but you shouldn't have any problems in the UK as all the apps and games etc are available in Europe

if you go on photos and at the top right corner underneath the battery meter it should show a picture of a camera. hit it and then it should open the camera without any apps!
+ the fact that you can buy a greater variety of books on the kindle. Anyway you wanna get something to eat sometime Katie?
You can go to pictures and up in the Right Hand Corner there is a Camera so you don't have to download an app to get a camera.

I wish it was a Google play device because it obviously has software limitations.TCM movie channel app has not all features available on Kindle.Also TMZ gossip app doesnt have video playability in my HDX.However it is a nice fast reliable tablet otherwise and I didnt really want to return it.

Kindle fire HD is awesome. Use the HDMI input to connect it to your TV.. then get a bluetooth wireless keyboard and use it as a lap top....fantastic..
i believe you can get rid of the book notification by sliding it. im not sure though. Please let me know if it does :)

after I had my kindle for a while it updated itself and I am able to take picture without an app and it displays the battery percentage at the top right of the screen

You got that right. I've been reading lots of reviews on this and some people just moan about anything FFS. They should STFU. This product is great from what I have seen and I will buy one. As with lots of things you need time to get to know it.
no, they use completely different operating systems. iPad/iPhone apps won't work on the Kindle Fire. But there are many apps that are available for both platforms.

I can't get my TH-cam app to show the 'homescreen' with my subscriptions, etc., and I can't sign in either. I tried an older version of the TH-cam apk as well as the newer one, and same issues. Or else it works fine for searching/playing videos.

Did they update the Dolphin web browser icon? The only one I'm seeing is the EZ app.

there is a camera app pre-installed press photos then top right is a camera press that and it is there
I also wish there was a way to force the web browser to trick webpages to think it's a desktop. I hate the mobile versions.. and you can never get sites like Hulu to work on it. I still don't know why it's so taboo for you to be able to view Hulu Plus on a tablet instead of a netbook.. Makes no sense to me.

With my Kindle fire hd with the books, to view the titles you hit the menu button (box with three lines) and click list view. Might not work for everyone. Not sure.
i thought this was same one as mine but its not cause mine does not have camera or micro sd port on bottom

The ebooks on paper white are more easy on the eye because it doesn't have a high resolution as the kindle fire hd -whereby if you read for too long on it,your eyes can become weary..on the paper white you don't have that problem.

Its not customizable like a Google Play device maybe.The customization is just about apps you put into it.Otherwise its not really customizable.

I like the adds.As for getting apps in there you have to find where it says store and navigate to apps.I think you need someone to show you how to basically use it.Ofcourse you can see videos in You tube on it.Just go to You tube and type in Kindle.Also you can come to Brooklyn and to me and I'll show you how to use it.
