Different for me to work this way, relying on MIDI for the whole process. Telling myself that there’s a whole world of possibilities only limited by my imagination. Great to see you Robert, please keep inspiring us with your music. ❤️
A really beautiful composition and an interesting realization. Always liked how you worked with MIDI. I'm curious to hear what future works will sound like!
I should use the flexible chords and the diminished to launch into a new key, the way the more thematic scores often do. I should have taken that opportunity with this piece as well, could have done that. But it was a quick assembly in a couple hours and export for TH-cam. As I listen now the following day I am hearing missed opportunities. At the same time, it’s short enough that it stands on its own, even without the large orchestrated parts which could have added dimension and weight. Working with MIDI in FL Studio is the softwares strong point with tools designed to help randomize velocities, find new notes with ease, and transpose octaves. I have even attached an expression controller to mod wheel parameters as needed. Slight learning curve yesterday, finding a new way to attach the controller and record the changes as automation, while still being able to draw in automation curves even after the fact. Believe it or not, there’s a lot to learn about MIDI for me, who has relied on recorded audio for most of my music. But this piece has no recorded guitar audio, it’s all MIDI aligned to a grid tempo. I would often like to disregard the grid, but watched other composers who depend on the grid and I see the advantage, when adding instruments so they time the same, so parts can be moved and reused using tools available, to make them sound new and different. That’s why I don’t want to give up just yet. Of course, musically there’s room to grow into key changes. And technically there’s room to grow the instrumentation, layering orchestral parts. And finally, adding atonal and unnatural notes for a grossly beautiful result. I can’t tell you how much it means to receive encouragement. I could easily just record my guitar amps and speakers. But I would miss this whole world of MIDI, which is neglecting opportunity. Thank you Michael. Sorry for the long post, I’m self reflecting. ❤️
This sounds awesome Jim! I agree it does sound like the end credits of a movie. It has that feel of bringing things to a conclusion and tying up loose ends, if that makes sense. I know nothing about music theory. For me I just pick notes that work together and go with that.
@@jimshomestudio Yeah, although I still tend to use the same things often. I've been up for 3 hours already. I'm normally up early, it is just that normally I am doing other stuff before I check YT. Today I was checking it while I was rendering a video for my next upload. It should be upload a little later today.
This is grid aligned, and recorded to a drum tempo which was removed to help create the impression of a free form composition. The string parts could have used a little help, there are some standout instruments available and when played individually layer amazingly well. Played it for the wife and she said it sounds like something new, different for me. Like a movie. That little bit of reassurance, was all I needed. 😊 I have a couple tracks recorded and ready to release, they’re rockers with screaming leads! Just have to determine if it’s worthy. I have a high tolerance for metal music, it’s what I grew up on. But sometimes I worry that it doesn’t gain an audience. I like when guitars feedback, sounds cool to me. Especially when you bend in a solo and it starts screaming… oh man.
@@jimshomestudio Oh man you should definitely release it if you think it's ready! I dig the variety. I agree that this song didn't sound quite like anything of yours I've heard before. It definitely has a very open and orchestrated feel. Great work!
We have had several but this one gets along with the cats. Bunnies can be the aggressors, however this one came to us as the victim of attacks by other bunnies so he doesn’t like aggression. He’s a pacifist! 😜
This music sound is really so beautiful!👍👍👍
Thank you very much! 🙏 Means the world to me. 🫶
Love the photo of Sonny and Brownie. Beautiful piece of music too 😊❤
The cats are very patient, understanding and a bit jealous. All spoiled, no doubt!
Jim , this is brilliant work. Beautiful.

Great sounds and chords. Very mysterious sounding.
It sure is different. 😜 And it was a different way of working as well, all MIDI. 🙏 Thanks for listening Tom.

That’s a working solution. It’s one of the best ways to create something unique and avoid patterns. Early bird today!
