Once in a while a genius comes along. Dave Allen one. I grew up watching him. I loved him then and still, love him now. Sadly, we shall never see anyone else with his genius. Thank you so much, Dave, for the laughter, the truth you spoke and the wisdom you gave through the laughter.
It's 3:40am and I've now watched over 5 hours of this very funny guy...Mr. Dave Allen, who I had never heard of til tonite. What a genius and hilarious comedian. --- M.S.A.
well...i'm from the states and we watched him growing up...to me he IS a legend but far too many people don't remember him and that is a shame...he was brilliant and as good a comedian as ever lived in my opinion...thanks for posting
Zeker weten! Heb altijd genoten van de shows die in Nederland werden uitgezonden. Dat waren er niet zo veel dacht ik, dus nu heel blij dat ik de rest ook heb kunnen zien
Hahaha👍👍😂😂 Still the best after all these years! Good points, fantastic observations of ordinary life.., always in all his work! There will never be another....
Mine used to do that too but it worked out well. Thanks to all that practice, I can now look anyone straight in the eye and lie my pants off without so much as a grin. Wonderful woman, my mum.
So many of these things ring true to me. I was a child of the 70s and 80s, and I remember...Mum and Dad doing the exact same thing. But I still loved them! It's a wonder we're not all bleeding fruit cakes after what our parents do to us!
My dad use to watch dave allen during the 70s and 80s when i was a kid even back then so young i laughed so much. I didnt understand most of his jokes then but his facial expressions and curses were enough to have me in knots.
Amusingly, I know exactly where he's coming from, since the most devout member of my family, my Grandmother, would have me lie to a local water park about my age when visiting with her to save a buck.
He got in trouble one time for "swearing". Anyway, what is a swear word? Words like murder, rape, war all fine, but not words for parts of the body or making love! How strange are so many accepted customs.
No, he didn't have a terrible childhood. Remember he's exaggerating for comic effect! Most parents were like that until relatively recently. The people he had problems with were the nuns - "Gestapo in drag"/
The word genius is always bandied about comedians. But, in this case it is true Dave was a true wordsmith and great orator. His stories were so compelling and you really take notice of what he’s saying. These days all they seem to do is swear.
No complaints then. We accepted making fun at each other . Be it status, religion family values etc. We all knew where we stood. Now we have the PC brigade (and yes, step in when need be) but ffs. This and other Dave Allen sketches/clips are harmless. Wowwww. I hear you say. "you can't say that, it sounds like you're being prejudice towards people with a dissabilty" Geezz i'm Epileptic and i take the piss out myself with my mates You now get my point. I'm not, and Mr Allen is not also. Lets all lighten up and see fun and banter for what it is, and not what some want it to be. Amen In the words of Dave Allen. "Goodnight, thank you, and may your god go with you"
John mcgowan Not sure you understand what PC means. It means treating people equally, particularly through language, but doesn't preclude joking around as long as the intent is ironic and not meant to malign (but most anti-PC comedians are just too lame and lazy to write a good politically incorrect joke). Dave Allen seems like one of the more PC comedians I've ever seen. It's all about context, intent, and obviously the joke itself. Dave's awesome. Thanks to Stewart Lee for getting me to him.
+Tom McCauley well put, people seem to think p.c. is killing jokes when all it's doing is weeding out the humorless garbage people try to pass off as "jokes", dave allen can get raunchy or "blue" but it's always of a high caliber. the difference being allen was a brilliant humorist not someone with the latest punch down "joke".
Haha, my mum used to look at our backs to see if we were lying, and if we were she said there would be a red X on the back. And then once I'd figured it out and because I was the oldest and enjoyed bossing around my younger sisters I'd pull the same trick on them haha
i'm a very big fan of the late dave allen. i've been watching him since my grandad showed me a show in the early 80's. some people don't like him because he was apparantly anti-church. well,he wasnt i don't think. he had a series nearly every year for 20 years. not many comedians can boast that, and he was supposed to be 'bad' for the BBC. he had alot of complaints but we still found his wit & inteligence somewhat hilarious. so form myself, just to say 'goodnight....and may YOUR god go with you'
I had a similar upbringing: sometimes I'd get tiny spots on my tongue that made my tongue sore: when I told my mother, I got "That's what you get for telling lies"
My mum used to catch me whenever lied by asking me to look into her eyes and then tell he that I had done my chores or something I couldn't do it without laughing she always caught me out.
I don't know if anyone sensed this, but I do not feel Dave was anti God at all. I feel he was anti religious dogma and hypocrisy. It seemed to me his constant references to and monologue themes about God was revealing a deeper questioning than he cared to admit. Just my opinion.
@sonadagothalus no, he would still be a legend, he's just dead but saying "was" a legend would imply that he stopped being a legend, not stopped being alive.
what a great discovery for a young idiot like myself.... just listened to him earlier tonight for the first time (on quitting smoking). 1 hr deep into my youtube exploration of this great comic. so funny. so sad he died in 2005. Ty for posting.

Mark Alexande
So pleased you have found him, Mark ~ he was first class ~ often in trouble but so funny
same thing for me, I discovered him 2 weeks ago and love him so much I watched him for hours every day
Hitcher177 g
I was allowed to stay up on a school night as a child to watch his programmes in the 70's. His thoughts are even more relevant today.
well...i'm from the states and we watched him growing up...to me he IS a legend but far too many people don't remember him and that is a shame...he was brilliant and as good a comedian as ever lived in my opinion...thanks for posting
Thank you.
Total brilliance and irreplaceable.
Having listened to Dave Allen I did hope he would live to my age and I am 83.
And now you’re 85! I hope!
Doesn't matter how long he's been gone : he'll always be the best of comedians
Thanks for Posting Dave..He is sorely missed.
When you are old enough to discern the quality of genuinely funny comedians, you might realise how fundamentally essential Dave was.
Could not have said it better my self
Only found out about this guy on TH-cam a couple of days ago - he is BRILLIANT
Thank you to the late, great Dave, from somebody whose dark days you always brighten. A Unique soul of genius
Its the way he delivers his dialogue which marks him out from the rest, the icing on the cake is the strength of his materiel. Genuis
Dave Allen is part of my childhood. Hilarious. I remember watching his programme with my father. So tragic he died so young at 68!!
Onvergetelijk . Die man was geweldig . ❤
Zeker weten! Heb altijd genoten van de shows die in Nederland werden uitgezonden. Dat waren er niet zo veel dacht ik, dus nu heel blij dat ik de rest ook heb kunnen zien
This guy was so brilliant in his comedy. I can relate to what he says so much more than the Catholic Church. Great stuff.
Used to watch Dave Allan as a kid and was in stitches laughing as I am now. Then of course Billy Connolly followed on ❤️
Saw him live donkeys years ago not only was his TV show hilarious but on stage he was a master of his craft.
He was always the greatest in my
opinion and I loved him and his
Jokes
Hahaha👍👍😂😂
Still the best after all these years!
Good points, fantastic observations of ordinary life.., always in all his work!
There will never be another....
I was lucky to have seen him in London around 1986. Gee, we could make fun of stuff back then.
fantastic person dave was
Brilliant story teller!😂
one word brilliant
Mine used to do that too but it worked out well. Thanks to all that practice, I can now look anyone straight in the eye and lie my pants off without so much as a grin. Wonderful woman, my mum.

He was just and still is brilliant... his comedy is just as relevant today, we miss him...
so pleased we get to watch these on here, he was great, and so smart too.
i am am a comedy entertainer too and went to see his show and loved it, he was a true funny, genuine entertainer!
One of the all time great comedians. Genius.
I hope when I die, I will be in the same part of heaven he is in. So funny!! A true wit!!
Just brilliant 👊 I forgot how good and funny he was 👍🍻
OH DAVE ,HOW WE DO MISS YEE.
+ian belardine He was so brilliant, cool comic and thanks to youtube we can watch him forever. Love his comedy
My dad use to watch dave allen during the 70s and 80s when i was a kid even back then so young i laughed so much. I didnt understand most of his jokes then but his facial expressions and curses were enough to have me in knots.
his sound effects and accents were hreat as well
Outstanding - funny man. The best ever.
Amusingly, I know exactly where he's coming from, since the most devout member of my family, my Grandmother, would have me lie to a local water park about my age when visiting with her to save a buck.
we love you Dave RIP !
The black spot. Did u come across that. How did he think an english audience would know that. I thought that parenting trick was completly Irish.
This guy was a genius in his time, and still funny now. Not a swear word to be heard unlike the modern genre.
He swore too. He just used it carefully and in the right places.
He got in trouble one time for "swearing". Anyway, what is a swear word? Words like murder, rape, war all fine, but not words for parts of the body or making love! How strange are so many accepted customs.
Agreed!
😷🌈😀
Oh he swore like a trouper, you just aren't familiar with his full body of work.
Shut up ya little bastard
a comedy genius thank u for posting
The people who hit 'dislike' did so to see if they got a black spot on their tongue.
my father absolutely loved his show ….well his humour. We live in NZ and tv was still black and white then but he filled it with colour.
Back in the 80’s and late 90’s most of the shows on tv were so amazing to watch.
His late in life stand up (no clips) is truly the start of observational humour, fantastic brilliant in that time, shame on you BBC
he was like james bond of the comic world..class
Sheer genius! 🤣... Always a laugh and transcends the years! RIP Dave!. Nuff said!.
This is one of the ones i actually remember seeing as kid, still so funny.
tells the truth about the world we live in but in a very very funny way.THE BEST.
One of the great comedic talents.
I love TH-cam. I haven't seen this guy in 30 years.
Watching Dave Allen and doing my homework was a typical of my evening when I was a kid. He was always a great way to get laughing.
Comic genius, wouldn't be allowed nowadays, too much honesty!
Why wouldn't it be allowed?
Now this entertainment unlike the dribble of today.
Absolute genius and legend of a comedian, there will never be another like him.
Poor Dave.....he had such a terrible childhood (it seems) and yet can still make us laugh....what a talent!!!
No, he didn't have a terrible childhood. Remember he's exaggerating for comic effect! Most parents were like that until relatively recently. The people he had problems with were the nuns - "Gestapo in drag"/

The little black mark on the tongue got me too. I wouldn't open my mouth.
dave allen was a brilliant comic
Sadly what he says is very true.
The man is a genius , different class
Brilliant, thanks
Dave Allen,
A Real Comedy Genius, If Around Today He Have To Sware ALL THE Time, Otherwise He Wouldn't Be Seen On Television,. 😀👍🤣😂😆🤣😂😀,.
tellement vrai concernant les "mensonges autorisés" des parents !
Watched him in the 90s, late night before bed.
Trumps nose would be dragging on the ground.

Tom McCauley I see...and who gets to decide when something is ironic and therefore acceptable.
John mcgowan well said you!
I constantly see people bitching about it but the only time ive seen it happen was once , just one fucking time , on an online group chat.
I was told pimple on tongue and I’d get one 😂😂😂😂😂
Legendary!!!
HILARIOUSLY FUNNY !!! R.I.P. DAVE ALLEN. MISSED GREATLY!!
Legends always die man, it's definitively the true path to immortality, you're remembered. It's poetry. @Tj01Bond
If you walked away from Catholic, catch this guy on religion.
Run away.
I grew up watching him. Such a great comedian & does cuss constantly.
Haha, my mum used to look at our backs to see if we were lying, and if we were she said there would be a red X on the back. And then once I'd figured it out and because I was the oldest and enjoyed bossing around my younger sisters I'd pull the same trick on them haha
Genius!!
The GOAT in storytelling in my book, no props but his expressions and voices (and, of course, a cigarette and a glass😁)
By
man is a legend
has there ever been a funnier comedian? never.
I miss him.
The black spot thing was ironically a lie in itself. XD
Dave the Great !!!!
the one person who didn't like this is prob the head of BBC.
The tragedy is that this is so true.
@sonadagothalus
well no, is would be accurate. He is still a legend as his legendary status is not gone, even though he's dead.
Dave is the best comic EVER😂😂😂
Love his voice

When I was little I would answer the phone and say... My papa isn't here!! A lie!!
MAY YOUR GOD GO WITH
dave allen nun better!
Never heard of her, this dave allen nun- and better than whom or what? Is Dave Allen the god in a new religion, worshipped by nuns?
Give it to them Dave😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️
My mum used to catch me whenever lied by asking me to look into her eyes and then tell he that I had done my chores or something I couldn't do it without laughing she always caught me out.
great

He is always smartly dressed - suit, tie & waistcoat and not jeans n T Shirt !
Well funny...
R.I.P .....and may you have gone to your God x
