In 2001 I was 6 years old turning 7 in November. 2nd grade. Just a couple months before this aired I'd lost my mother. Just two days after this aired, 9/11. Within a month of this airing my father, needing a fresh start I guess, loaded my younger sister and I up in his Jeep, and set our house on fire. We headed north to relocate to his hometown. For a about a month we lived in a Holiday Inn, in a room with the pool just outside the door. For the time before I'd been re-enrolled into a new school, I was allowed to stay up and watch TV for as long as I wanted, and that's when I first came across adult swim. The three of us were hooked, we laughed so hard. With all the chaos at the time, this [as] lineup helped hold us together, and will always serve as the warm backlight and absolute comedic release we needed in what I remember otherwise to be pretty dark times. We were all just chattering at first... But the teacher started talking louder and more panicked on the phone. We all turned and stared at her until she hung up. She went back up in front of the class and said "kids... We need to talk". Ill never forget that. Everyone was let out early, but im pretty sure my dad was there to pick me up before they even made that call. Everyone was so scared. I remember the first time CN signed off and Adult Swim came on, my dad made me go to bed lol. I also remember the first time Boondocks aired.

And as we sit on the hood of our car, the sun goes down and he asks me what I want out of my life. I tell him I don’t know.
