Don is a 1978 Indian crime thriller action film, written by Salim-Javed (Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar), produced by Nariman Irani, and directed by Chandra Barot. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman, Pran, Iftekhar, Helen, Om Shivpuri, Satyen Kappu and Pinchoo Kapoor. The film features music by Kalyanji Anandji, with lyrics by Anjaan and Indeewar.
Bachchan plays a double role, as Bombay underworld boss Don and his lookalike Vijay. The film's plot revolves around Vijay, a Bombay slum-dweller who resembles the powerful crime boss Don, being asked by law enforcement officer DSP D'Silva (Iftekhar) to masquerade as Don, in order to act as an informant for the police and track down the root of the criminal organization.
It was the third highest-grossing Indian film of 1978, and was classified a golden jubilee by Box Office India. The film spawned the Don franchise; Javed Akhtar's son Farhan Akhtar created a remake Don: The Chase Begins Again (2006) and its sequel Don 2 (2011), both starring Shah Rukh Khan. It also inspired several South Indian remakes, notably the Tamil film Billa (1980), a breakthrough film for Rajinikanth. Don is also known for its theme music, which was sampled by Black Eyed Peas' "Don't Phunk with My Heart" (2005) and used in the American Dad! episode "Tearjerker" (2008).

This is a bit weird. Just the other day i was going to suggest you watch this song if you love big B and here it is ! It was one of the biggest song out there when i was a kid and to this day i think its the best dance number in bollywood. I know hiritk and tiger's are great dancers and these days any song is highly choreographed but nothing beats this big B song. It's simple, great facial expressions, extremely catchy and the steps are so in sync with the beat of the music. Not surprised that after 40 years this song is still popular.

AB owed his popularity to his incredible talent , unique voice and dialogue delivery and powerful screen presence...most of the media was against him..they did not promote him like they have been doing for the Khans during all these years...

this movie is a legend. in this song... amitabh bachchan was high on "bhaang"{indian intoxicating stuff mostly used during the festival of holi}.. the line in the song.. "chhoraa ganga kinaare wala" which means.. guy from the banks of river ganga, became very famous as amitabh bachchan is originally from allahabad, a city situated on the banks of river ganga.

Hello, this is Tish! Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I think there is no one like Big B. He is a living legend and a national treasure for India!
I am a bit late to it. But SRK or anyone cannot match Big B - neither in ability nor in popularity. At Big B’s peak there wasn’t even a distant number 2. Today at least there are 3 Khans and may be Hrithik, Akshay, Ranbir and Ranveer who are all “in the race” and still there he is , Big B , still going strong at 75 years old, still carrying movies on his shoulder . Besides every Indian actor has a TV show and multiple brand endorsements. Why? Because Big B starts a trend and others follow.
Amit is a Legend. He is unmatchable and especially NOT by SRK. I love SRK for his down to earth charisma and dislike Amit for his arrogance but even I know when to give credit where it's due. Amit is like Elvis, Madonna and MJ. He is the kind of genius that walks the earth only once and after that, the template gets destroyed , never to be reproduced again. No one in the history of Indian cinema compares to him.

Sanjoy Temp , as you correctly point out, it is the bhang (marijuana) in the paan he is chewing that adds a lot to this song. Stuff is wasted on amreekans who just smoke it. They should taste it in paan, in batter fried leaves , in "thandai"(cold milk shakes with leaves and almonds) and in a hundred other ways of enjoying these leaves. Smoking? Bah, not so much at all.
Small trivia: during the shooting of this movie Amitabh was injured in leg and was hopping hence that hoping dance(Which became a cult classic later)

Little trivia about this song: Amitabh Bachchan was actually in pain during the filming of this song. He had injured himself while shooting for another film ‘Laawaris’ and had to take pain killer injections while doing this song so that it was completed on schedule. That’s Big B for you. He isn’t Big just like that 😊
