- Federal Q2B... If I ever video that again, I will probably back the camera up a little more and zoom in. The camera was about 8 feet away and it sounds like it was giving the mic some trouble...
The squealing you hear at around 2:00 was some guy driving by in a truck with maintenance issues, not the siren.
To any fellow Firefighters and former Firefighters, I don't have to tell you about how your heartbeat kicks up a notch when you hear one of these, or how you can tell just by how the operator is running it whether they're responding to a medical call or a sho' nuff structure fire. Enjoy!
Anyone with a line on a STH-10, leave me a comment, I'm looking for one.
Greatest sound in the entire world if you ask me.
It is interesting that sirens can be nothing more than a cleverly built fan.
+Charles Shade II (FurryWrecker911)
Yep!
It's basically a fan that is meant to be loud. usually fans are meant to be quiet, not loud ... XD
+Charles Shade II (FurryWrecker911) , fan that's bring up fun. ;)
It's called an air raid
@@MinecraftPro97k no
All that's missing is a guy hanging on to the air horn chain for dear life!
no kidding
The best and loudest mechanical siren ever made, with a very distinct sound. Many of these come with electric brakes. Without applying the brakes, these things will spin for a long time. I was at a car fire once. The fire engine responding had a Q2B. It arrived, the fire was put out, and the siren was still spinning enough to make a sound.
The loudest siren ever made was the lionking defender apparently.
the best sound I've ever heard
Glad to hear that 🥰👍
I have one of these in excellent used condition. They are the most powerful vehicle siren to my knowledge. A wonderful mechanical siren sound. All of our fire engines here have one on the bumper. These sirens have been used for years on firetrucks. They probably sell for over $2,000.00 today.
Nothing makes a fire rig sound as good as the Federal Q mechnical siren. It gets you noticed and pepole used to get the hell out of your way when you used it. The only other thing that some times works are those new low end Rumbler sirens. thanks for sharing. Now all you need is the rest of the engine or ladder to put that on!
I love that classic growl from that Federal Q2B siren! You don't hear many sirens like this anymore!
Your neighbors must love you... Nice sound!
The sweetest sound in the world!
@e57michel 12 volts, never measured rpms but that information may be available on Federal Signal's website
Music to my ears
There was a man named John Dorgan aka "The Siren Man", who was widely recognized among collectors as the authority on sirens and vintage warning lighting. He passed away a year or two ago but his family is continuing his work, I believe. TH-cam won't let me post the link here but google sirenman and it should be the first result.
The best to have when your are responding to a call
They have them on the fire trucks here and sound them and drive around before a severe storm ( a lot of places in Florida do that instead of a siren system) there extremely loud and sound awesome!
True. Some Q sirens don't have the classic growl like this old thing. Some of the newer Q sirens are just a steady tone, no growl whatsoever.
u have ear protection?
My department still uses the old Qs in the trucks
i think federal siren company should made a small version of this siren that equals powerful loudness this siren but call it a mini q2b siren
You can buy a new one directly from Federal Signal or from a dealer, but that will run you about 2 grand. Sometimes used ones pop up on eBay for several hundred dollars, depending on what condition they're in.
Nice-sounding Siren
Thanks!
You should do sirens based of the ones on the squad and engine from the show emergency
I love this sound in the morrning or is it just cause im a firefighter.
@GeorgiaFF
ok. i guess it has some thousands RPM´s ( about 5000-9000!?)! and a very well balanced rotor for the high RPM. but it sounds awesome.
sounds like a German stuka plane
Also, if there is someone locally who rebuilds starters (like for your car) they should be able to work on the motor for your siren.
Thats what im talkin abt, Subscribed :)
Best sound ever
I use this siren on roblox while playing ultimate driving westover islands
That would wake up the neighbors at 5 in the morning
I would sell mine, but only locally. Shipping costs would be extraordinary. According to Federal Signal, the manufacturer, the shipping weight is 49 pounds.
Thanks all for the comments and subscriptions... Neighbors haven't yet complained, perhaps they're closet Q lovers lol...
a 123 db siren the federal q siren
Estimated could help me in telling me where I can buy a siren of these I am from mexico city. thank you

where did u get that?.....mabey my neighbors will move out quicker
Lol
Good to make your dog howl!
Listen if she's not screaming like that you're doing it so wrong
My new ring tone lol
Ich will sie haben für mein altes Bike. Air Raid Sirene als Free Roller ist genau daß, was ich brauche. Gruß aus Deutschland.
wow. how many RPM´s / volts?
Oh Gawd, Imagine an Engine twilgwting you with this siren.. D:
That's the idea! You want to GTFO the way!
TheSimpleGamer True!
sometimes fire trucks still have that kind of siren
schemer1991 listen if it doesn’t have a q it’s not a firetruck
Cuando oigo esa sirena... cierro los ojos y se me hiela la sangre. Pero es una sensación sumblime y única; por la bendita Gracia de Dios!!!
I also rescued adalena with this fire engine siren made by 1981
you best better believe it!
What makes the "wavering" "pulsating" sound, heard more easily starting at 1:40 ?
+Robert Gift I don't know... probably something to do with the shape of the sound waves, the size of the apertures, and the speed of the rotor all coming together in a particular way. I'd like to know, myself. It sounds that way in person, it's not just the mic.
+Jeremiah Shaw The sirens on our apparatæ do the same. But I do not recall hearing the effect from my Federal Signal 2t22A tornado siren. Its 10 and 12-port rotors are nothing like the Q's beautiful 14?-port rotor.
(Years ago I told Federal Signal their Q rotors should have 1/4 the ports to produce a tone two octaves lower at peak rpm.) Lower frequencies travel farther through air and penetrate vehicles better.
The wa-wa-wa-wa is because the Stators are made in a mold, making them not perfect, and the rotors are not perfectly balanced.
B&M makes their sirens on a lathe and have perfectly balanced rotors.
Edaan Friedman How can one lathe a rotor? Rotors are balanced by drilling shallow holes in them.
When I line my rotors up with their stator ports, they are almsost perfectly matched.
You misunderstood me. What I'm trying to say is that the rotor on the Q is not perfectly centered, causing it to make that wah-wah sound.
The other thing I was saying is that the gap on a Q between the rotor and the stator on one side can be 20,000th of an inch, and on the other side it can be 50,000th of an inch.
On a B&M the gap is exactly the same everywhere because it's lathed.
Some Philippines & North Yankee Used It.
How do you guys get these sirens?
Fedsig dot com
Nick Capelli Eithier what +Michael G Said or off of retired rife engines.
Am I the only one that uses this to get the dog to bark?
now the growl squeal and grunt of the q2b you can't get from an eq2b
+Mark Chamness eq2b is at *full volume* at low frequencies. Real sirens are are less loud at lower frequecies.
+Robert Gift true but the eq2b needs to have the qualities of he real q2b including the grunt, squeal abd air chopping effect
Mark Chamness Those are unneeded. Anything more than a square wave going into the speaker driver would be superfluous.
The Q should have 5 ports instead of 15(?) (I counted but forgot.)
I'd like to stick one in my Prius.
i agree cody
Well I found the federal q2b peaking q
How do these work?
good...
Wish our fire apparatæ Q sirens had 1/3rd the ports.
Lower frequencies penetrate vehicles better and carry farther.
Our Q has absolutely no problem clearing traffic, I don't think it's the siren
xArkAngelx We approach some big intersections which could clear _earlier_ if the siren were at a much lower pitch. Lower pitches attenuate less in air (travel farther) and penetrate vehicles better.
Federal Signal made a mistake in making so many ports in their sirens.
(As it winds down to lower frequencies, you can feel the pressure pulses from my Federal Signal 2t22A tornado siren.)
+Robert Gift Tbh intersections don't clear fast enough not because people don't hear it. But people just don't give a fuck anymore. Here in NJ people freeze and dont move at all or just ignore you.
Mathew Festoff People do care. They try to help but often get surprised and do not know what to do or can't quickly figure out what is best. Some freeze.
Yesteray I'm in left lane (#1). Approached a woman in #1 ahead. No other traffic near. She easily could have changed lanes to #2 or 3 or 4 and continued. Instead, she slows to a stop. (As a forner (AAA) driver instuctor, many people are afraid to change lanes, especially to the right.)
Another problem is people not hearing the siren. Fire kept their siren peaked at top RPM (steady tone) Wife and I did not even recognize a siren. Must go up and down in frequency.
I Will Make A Higher Pitch Sound Like Osaka Motor Siren 24 Volts Battery.
That's and older version
where do u get this
Q2B. The Q2A doesn't have brake.
