My father had a Blaupunkt radio and late at night I'd sneak away from bed to warm it up, slowly turn the dial, lots of squeals and static, then finally, a clean crisp sound, from someplace far away, usually a British voice. The productions weren't as sophisticated then as this one, but the effect the same, imagination let loose in a warp in time, indescribable but known to those who found this channel.
These light-hearted Comedy Crime Capers are so redolent of a bygone era....I mean, Margery Allingham, a Lagonda, manservant, butler, cocktails....ah those were the days...thank you Chesterton Radio.... broadcast originally as a Saturday Night Theatre drama on 9th January, 1982 and features a host of radio voice actors stalwarts. Well worth the listen. Full cast announced at the end.
The weather forecast at the end was interesting,the days of closed motor ways and roads across the country reminding us how bad winters used to be.Fog and snow crippled the country,proper winters.
Dog licenses. That bought back memories. We had to buy one once at the post office and the clerk said "name, and I don't mean Rover". I expect so many people had said the dog's name instead of their own.
