- This week after duck hunting WestFork is out checking the ponds looking for some teal, while out there the pigs are out there in force also so it is time for a little Hog Hunting with shotguns! Up close and personal!
Westfork outfitters is based out of North Texas and we travel all across the United States even Mexico. We do everything outdoors and we hunt anything in North America, one month may be bowfishing and bass fishing tournaments, while the next month might be deer hunting and duck hunting just depends on the season.

@@jasonjanoyblahaloverboy3005 its not the shape per se, it's the knees and back pounded by years of military and hard labor along with the risk to joints, bones, and tendons associated with chunky, potted, and tilled soil. I used to run across farm fields all the time chasing gophers, acting stupid, and generally being young. Now the thought of twisting my ankle, blowing my knee, or jarring my back doesn't seem as appealing or minor an issue anymore. I'll leave that dumbfuckery to the young and invincible and admire their energy, resilience, and fearlessness. Go boys go!!

As you were "aerobic hog hunting" it was obvious that the field had been decimated by those hogs. Good hunting!
Buckshot: when you need to stack up wild 🥓 on the hoof.
Amazing how hunters under estimate Buck Shot, I grew up in a shotgun only country, and it took me many years to improve paterns from factory loads in the 1970's to today buffered and chocked loads and barrels. (first time I shot at Deer was with purple paper cased 00 British Eley, Missed twice at 30 and then 35 Yds). Today handload out to 50 -60 yds and often more efective than a Rifle at that range
@@WillyK51 I pour .35 cal buckshot, which is in between #00 and #000 and make some hard hitting 8 pellet 12ga loads with it. I get 1200 - 1450fps depending on type and amount of powder. Also make a 12 pellet #0 Buck load that is a death swarm!
@@showproja My only shotgun is 12 Ga O/U I Cil/Mod, and hates bigger size pellets, yet after years of handloading got it to patern decently for longer shots, buffered # 1 buck in a wad, is the one that paterns best and in larger birdshot a buffered 1 1/2 oz slower 2 3/4 " shell load. Read that in the old days, when no choke, heavier loads and under 1200 fps tightened paterns, and it worked for me, Not that may hunters use Buckshot now a days, but they are very efective within the range the gun likes. It's fun to tinker load developing.

Do you harvest any of them or just leave em for the crows?
Most of the time we will leave them for the crows. Wild pigs are a very big problem in our area for farmers and ranchers in the area doing millions of damage. We often give them away to people if they want to eat them but you have to be very selective on which ones to eat because the bigger they get the extremely tough. Thanks for watching!
If i owned that piece and allowed you to hunt it, i would insist on you picking them up The bones will destroy an expensive piece of farm equipment. The least you could do is set them off at the fence line where no harvesting equipment would make contact.

Man, I make some T-Rex grade buckshot rounds that I'm dying to try out on some feral hogs! What are you guys loaded up with?
This shows a shotgun can be used but not as practical as a rifle. They hit him multiple times and he is still alive. I understand how devastating these wild boars are in Texas but don't you believe they should be dispatched asap? I agree they have to go and a good head shot is the best and quickest way. Like hunting elk where I live, we want the meat but we don't like to see the animal suffer. Am not criticizing, just voicing an opinion.

Never ever hunt pigs without a sidearm. Especially wounded boars. Save you a damn good doctor bill or even your life
Family friend long time before I was born (77) had his leg almost torn off at the knee. He had to have it amputated. Big beast boar took 4 shots from a Ruger .44 carbine, ripped on the dude, then took 2 shots from his friends Garand before he fell.

Varying buckshot out of a 12, 16, and 20ga have been the most versatile stuff I've ever used. Sight dead on, then move off a hair to reduce the amount of shot centering, and you'll be surprised what you can drop without blowing it to pieces.
Which Shotgun Gauge is better at taking down The Wild Hogs? 12, 16, or 20??? And What's the main differences between Them?

I scare to chase after a wounded boar, especially a big and thick boar. When they hurt they have no way to run they will come after you. I seen it and done that, it's scary when they hidden in thick brushes and comes charging at you.
It's crazy how they destroy things so bad. My friend has a pet pig and he used to keep it locked in his kitchen...until it destroyed the walls as high as it could reach and it rooted up all the flooring. It has its special blanket it always sleeps under, so all you ever see is a big blue snoring mound and that's all it does except for eating and pooping. What a great pet, so exciting!

You need to start using drones to spot the hogs as your walking toward them and the drone noise will distract the hogs.
