Thank you! You saved our barbecue tonight. We're going to smoke some steaks but couldn't get the smoker to connect to our Wi-Fi. After following your instructions it's working. yay!!
You're welcome! I was stuck in a pickle too and couldn't find any good info so that's why I decided to make the video. Glad it helped, and hope you have a delicious dinner!
Thanks for the info. I got my DB in May and after several smokes I had the same issue w/ the temp heading up to 500 deg at startup but my smoke setting was 225 deg. Have any of you contacted GMG? Maybe they'll send you a new board.
I haven't had a problem since this. I think I had just tried to hot start it too man times unsuccessfully. Since the instructions in the book and online were wrong, I think that shoved a bunch of pellets into the burner and it just had to burn them out.
I got no FOOD button they keep talking about, so knowing it’s Probe 1 is golden. Grill looks so clean! Even with a cover and cleaning, here at beach, the entire grill rusted after one year.
My problem is that my WiFi antenna broke back in January when I was taking the cover off after an ice /snow storm- broke the wire right off. I finally got that replaced, but somewhere between then and last week (when I got the antenna) we got a new wifi router and our password changed. So I haven't been able to connect to my home network for like 6 months, lol. So I am assuming I have to reset my wifi, then take and get on the app on my phone, enter in the GMG wifi network in the blank, and then the serial number where it asks for the password? I am also getting a wifi extender today to plug in by my back patio door.....when I could switch over to being able to roam around town mode, I would frequently lose the signal at the router here at home (not from my phone).
Ive tried to update my firmware to both daniel boone versions and now when i go to start it up it goes through its start up sequence and goes past the 150°F and keeps climbing past whatever temp i set it to? Its frustrating to say the least as it was working perfectly fine before I decided to try and update it. Ughhhh please help.
Gone through this at least 10 times. Loses connection in middle of cook and play hell to reconnect. Worst wifi possible. Love the grill but don't count on the wifi being consistant. GMG says the grill needs to be no more than 20 feet from the router. Keep the fork lift handy since router is upstairs.
I love this grill but green mountain’s Wi-Fi etc is shit, it worked great when I bought it 3 or so years ago but the app and their connectivity is total shit. Just about ready to kick the circuit board off the side of it. The grill hooks to my home Wi-Fi no prob, and I know my password is the number stamped on the back but it still refuses to talk to any of my devices. Tried two different iPods and a tablet that it used to “talk to” and nothing will work. Again, I “used to” like everything about this unit and it’s connectivity but right now I’m so close to filling it full of tanneright and taking it for the Old Yellar walk. I’ve been working around their junky ass connectivity too long and am just about to my last straw, hope this works, but I doubt it.
So the house I just moved in came with one of these and I'm trying to figure out how to operate the whole damn thing. Any tips for me would be appreciated.
I'd be surprised if there wasn't a manual online, but if you can't find it call GMG and order one. They are great to work with. There is also a Facebook group with lots of info.
Try pushing in and holding on the 12v connection (cigarette lighter style) for the power cord either at the grill or at the 120v adapter. You may have to rotate and re-seat it as well. I wired mine together with cable ties to compress them at the 120v power converter to keep it from popping out if bumped.
I’m on my 2nd cook and it just dropped offline. I rebooted it and the heat is just climbing past even the temp on the lcd screen. Watching this grill-side...
@@PhaedruS007 Yes you will want to know how to do that too. It can save you run up in temp or a flare if you try to start the grill regularly during an interrupted cook and it can save whatever you're cooking. Here's how: th-cam.com/video/p6w_aQ2xNUg/w-d-xo.html It sounds like perhaps the runup was what was happening during the "reboot" because when you do a regular start it pushes more pellets in, where the hot start just starts the igniter again.
Amazing, even screwtube won’t let me tell you how much green mountain grills app sucks since the update. My grill won’t connect to three different devices that used to run it just fine. Can’t connect to the grill no how.

Good deal. Hope you enjoyed the steaks. I find them delicious on the smoker with a good strong wood pellet blend.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! This has been an intermittent frustration for several years. Finally, an answer. Thank you.
Glad it helped!
Thanks man. GMG really should update their manual. But glad you made this and even the thumbnail made me know I was going to get the answer! 🍺 Cheers!
Glad it helped!
This was so helpful. I was in the exact same situation with my pork shoulder. Thanks!
This is some great advice for the GMG WiFi reset
Thank you for making this video! This was super helpful in a tight spot and needed to know how to do the hot start quick.

Thank you, great video. I was having the same problem and couldn’t figure it out until I watched your video.
Thanks. I was getting really frustrated!! You made my day!!! Thanks!!?
Huge thank you. Their website and docs are out of date. Doesn't understand the 2 probe controllers.
Glad it helped!

I agree! Very helpful! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
this method also worked to reset the food probe on my older jim bowie. turned off, held food probe button and powered on.
Good to know. Thanks for sharing!

Yea you will need to reset the board and change the network via the app.

Thanks man this helped a lot! 👍🏻
Great! Hope your cook turned out awesome!
Have to do this evertime i use the grill. Gets a bit tiersome
Have you contacted support? If it's in warranty they may send you a new board.
Thank you for this video
My pleasure

Yea it did that to me too because the hot start info I found was wrong. I have another video of that. If that doesn't work your board may be bad.
57 Squared - I don’t even know about hot start, but it sounds like I should.

Did you ever figure out how to switch to wifi router so you can see the app away from the house?
Yes used it all the time. It's called "server mode" just look up how to enable it.
@@57squared thank you for the reply and this video.
@@dand7056 Most welcome!

Would help if you would just get to the point. So much jibbers jabber
You're welcome!
Get to the point. Geez
It called POINT TO POINT NOT pier to pier
I understand most people imbibe when cooking on the smoker, so once you sober up go ahead and comment with something that is comprehensible.
