This hymn was first sung in a little Catholic church in Austria. It was played on a simple guitar, because the church's organ was broken. "Stille Nacht" is wonderful when sung by a huge choir or performed by a huge orchestra, but its humble origins and first, simple performance are still - in my humble opinion - the best.
There is no doubt to my mind that this must be surely my favourite Christmas carol of all time. Thank you Lord for been part of my life since 1959 to date.

Love the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. This was my dad's favorite hymn and I can hear him play it on the organ in my imagination. RIP dad. Apparently the German and allied troops came out of their trenches long enough to sing this song this song over no msns land. Shows how music transcends nationalities and creates comradeship.💙💚
