Sir, thank you for posting the video, very enjoyable. I have had a Ruger No 1 in .243 W since the early 1980's My very first centrefire rifle. Sir great to see you shoot perhaps my favourite rifle. I have 3 currently, 6mm Remington, .45/70 Gov and .416 Remington Magnum. All are very accurate with 3 shots and my hand loads.
Good, I wish I could have more Ruger No.1`s, but the venerable 30-06 does it for me. I do have another couple of single shots, perhaps a video with those would be appropriate?
I had one of the first # 1's back in the late 60's it was chambered for 6mm I hand weighed every load and was going crazy because I could not get a 100 yard group smaller than about 3/4" I tired every bullet of different weights and different powders I even bedded the barrel I used 4350 powder and it improved slightly as a final gesture I went 3 grains below minimum and low and behold it probably tighten up to about 3/8" for a three shot bench group. I am sorry I cannot be exact as to many years have gone bye, but I can still remember the agony; who would have thought a few grains under minimum would win? The number one was one of the most beautiful rifles ever made... Ruger should bring it back and charge a reasonable price for a quality rifle!
I have a No 1 varmit in 223 always gets the looks at the range and I have let many people fire it. Agreed the first shot is the only shot you should need. The wood is always better than other rifles. I would love to get one in 250 savage.
@@kbowen2251 Yeah, I know lol. The guy took over pawnshop and in the process of transferring everything over with the ATF, he was trying to get rid of the previous owners firearms quickly. He knew exactly what he had, and what it was worth.
I used to have the same model (No1 A in 30-06). It was pretty accurate but suffered from a "Wandering Zero" - could be as much as 18 inches at 100 yds! This happened every time I took the forend off for cleaning. I had a friend (proffesional stockmaker) free float the barrel and bed the forend onto the forend hangar. I lost a little accuracy (it would only shoot 1 - 1.25 inch at 100 yds) but would do this under any and all conditions. Hot/cold/dirty/clean just didn't matter. Loved that rifle!
There is many factory rifles out there with great accuracy, perhaps even better than the Ruger No. 1..? But the No. 1 is perhaps the most elegant rifle and with a descent accuracy, at least for a hunting application. Thanks for watching and your honest comment.
I like the Number 1 a lot too. Have a custom in 338 RUM that I shot a 6 point bull elk with, and a 405 Winchester that I haven't shot anything with yet. Nice video and good choice in the light sporter in 30-06.

A elegant rifle for the consummate sportsman. Like they said about the Winchester model 70 it is a rifle mans rifle. Not fast on a reload but quick with practice. The Ruger #1 in 30-06 is on my short list now as last year I had a issue with my Remington 700. I had my Savage 110 30-06 with me and it was spot on but my partner had his #1 in 270 and I decided to give her a go. Seems to be a good choice as I took a nice 4x5 whitetail at 221yards that fell where he stood. This year has been to tough to be able to afford a new rifle but hopefully next will be better. I already have a Leupold Vx-2 2-7x33 to top her so the combination in 30-06 should work nicely. Thank you for such a fine video on a rifle that has always had a soft spot in my heart for its looks alone and now it’s shootability.
They're beautiful rifles, but it bit out of my price range I have a Thompson center Encore pistol It shoots a wide variety of calibers also but all you have to do is buy different barrels, a company called (MGM) Match Grade Machine makes any caliber you want (almost any) including the new 350 legend and 450 bushmaster

I have a Ruger number one chambered and 270 Winchester it's the most beautiful gun in my safe and collection. I need to get it out and make another video myself I have a channel called Love The Hunt under my name John Rankin. I have a couple of shooting reviews if you like to check it out.
@@snapshotscorner5542 I have a Standard in .308. I love it as much as you love yours. Those who do not understand why anyone should have a single shot rifle should not have one.
Sounds like these #1 rifles vary in accuracy according to calibre. I would be buying one in 308 and firing light 115 grains or so. Wonder what it can do.. Must be similar to this one.
i think the "...best evermade..." is a stretch. Interestingly they are not known as shooters...at least at the level that you would think based on the type of action and the higher grade stock/fitting.....and they are spendy. I would agree that they are a very nice looking rifle. But for the money, there are cheaper and better single shots like T/C Encore, Contender G2 rifle, or H&R Ultra. - all of those are out-of-the-box tack drivers. Still I give Ruger credit for continuing to try to make fine hunting rifles. There are just 200 sporting rifles that I would buy first...like use the money to by an authentic rolling block or falling block heirloom.
I have had a few of these number 1's. I agree that they are an attractive rifle and light. But they are notoriously inconsistent as for accuracy. Not one of the rifles I had would shoot better than 1-1/2 to 2-1/2" at 100yds. Or worse! I was very disappointed to say the least! The day I picked up a browning B78, I found out what quality is. I have 4 of them now, and they all shoot under MOA! Just a better design, simple as that. The only thing I dont like about the B78 is the weight. Wish I could find a number 1 that actually shoots at least close to MOA.
For some reason, I prefer the Winchester 1885. Smoother action and it doesn’t have the strange trigger guard hook that the #1 has. The Ruger is awesome, though, and good to see single shots get some love. (Real Reason: John Browning.)
Well I have bout. The Ruger No. 1 in said 30.06 and the 1885 Uberti replica of JMB`s first design. My 1885 is in 38-55, and I use it mainly for Black Powder Cartridges who I shoot in competition. The Uberti replica 38-55 is on my list for coming TH-cam projects.
6,5 x 55 is a very common caliber up here in Norway and Scandinavia. I have a "Lang Krag" in the said 6,5 x 55, but as it have only one lug on the bolt it is prone to hit in a string up/left if the bolt or the chamber gets wet. It is actually the same rifle the Norwegians did fight the Germans with in 1940. There will be a video on this rifle during this summer..!
I have a Ruger number 1 in 270 Winchester with a Leopold 2.52 10x by 50 and I will match that rifle against anything under seven hundred and fifty yards
I have a 1987 no1 7mm Remington magnum that was a gift to me,I love it and I will pass it down to my son someday,I have a browning blr light weight in 7mm08 also and the ruger no1 is hands down a better rifle, thanks for the video.
The versatility of this incredible rifle is awesome. All the calibers it is made in are nothing more than impressive. I need to work on loads for this rifle, It can get even better.
@@anthonywithem2272 I belief that I will get a Hornady OAL gauge tool and make me some modified brass. In order to be able to seat the bullet closer or make more accurate munition. In my newest reloading video I opted for 82mm COAL, that might be not the optimal COAL. A comperator to measure from base to ogive would be nice to.

It goes back to the old saying one shot 1 kill if you can't put the animal down with one shot you shouldn't be hunting before you ever go out hunting you should always know your rifle and you're stopping power when you come up against an animal it should always know what you will need to stop and put the animal down with one shot and make sure that the animal does not suffer the most Humane thing to do stop the heart with one shot this way the animal does not suffer and it goes down immediately and you must train for that how long time which I always did my father taught me that
I got a stainless encore 308 in 26" and I guarantee I can out shot your rifle with box ammunition......and I can convert it into a .50 muzzle loader rifle and I can convert it into a encore pistol. How can that rifle even compare to my custom encore
I am happy for you and your Encore, those are great. I`d take your challenge just for the fun of it... there are probably a lot of rifles that can out-shoot my Ruger No.1. But for single shot rifles, it is one heck of a cool rifle.
Well, I can tell you are not hunting in Grizzly country, or you might want another round or two! Had I been using a single shot when I was charged, I would have never gotten in a second shot! Most accurate? My brothers Remington 700 BDL will hide 4 rounds under a dime at 100 meters, My other brothers Winchester 70 XTR will hide 5, 250 gr. Nosler Partitions under a quarter, and my Winchester 70 338 WM will drive a bulls eye off a cold barrel every time! In my experience, the Ruger no 1 has average accuracy at best, and your handloads seem to back that up. Even my sons military 30-06 with original trigger shoots tighter groups than you have shown, I know I would not be happy with those loads.
Once you've hunted men an like it ,there is no other hunting ,1shot 1 kill a magazin allways you to kill more then one query .., With all that gear why didn't u buy a real bench to shoot ftom ,u can't tell if it's you or the rifel so

They actually produce a small number in a dedicated caliber every year. I would love to see a No. 1 Varmint model in 6.5 Grendel.
Beautiful rifle
It is a winner..!
I have a No 1 varmit in 223 always gets the looks at the range and I have let many people fire it. Agreed the first shot is the only shot you should need. The wood is always better than other rifles. I would love to get one in 250 savage.
Amazing rifle! These days in the the states you can rarely get these rifles for under $1500 and nice examples are easily $2500.
I just found one in 300 Win Mag for $850 out the door.
@@Catgat37 that's a sweet deal there!!!
It is I boldly stated in the video perhaps the best American made hunting rifle there is. I love mine.
Great review Sir! Thanks Swedish?
Nice rifle and great cartridge. I don’t wish to be hard to get along, but I doubt it’s the most accurate factory hunting rifle ever manufactured.
There is many factory rifles out there with great accuracy, perhaps even better than the Ruger No. 1..? But the No. 1 is perhaps the most elegant rifle and with a descent accuracy, at least for a hunting application. Thanks for watching and your honest comment.
Great video. I will buy a Number 1.
I like the Number 1 a lot too. Have a custom in 338 RUM that I shot a 6 point bull elk with, and a 405 Winchester that I haven't shot anything with yet. Nice video and good choice in the light sporter in 30-06.
I love my #1 in 405!! Just wish I could find some load data for 300gr hardcast lead bullets 🤔
Won’t really shoot it much till I can get an ammo supply up to a comfortable level
@@starnavigator6665 Lyman had a cast bullet loading manual that they put out for a lot of years. It had data for the 405 300 grain bullet. Not looking to sell mine but you should be able to find one on the interwebs.
Edit: I believe Lyman's regular reloading book has data for the 300 grain jacketed & cast bullets for 405 Win.

@@starnavigator6665 no problem. Good luck and happy shooting!
Thank you for kind words, I hope you will be able to obtain your desired rifle.
I’ve owned one in 25-06, 300 win mag, and currently 270 wby mag I miss my .25-06. I do love my 270 wby mag #1
I currently own one in 25-06, 300 win mag, and various other calibres I inherited from my step father. They are very nice rifles.
This is a beautiful looking rifle and I really want to shoot one.
What more can one ask of a rifle? Good looking and shoots well....!
They're beautiful rifles, but it bit out of my price range
I have a Thompson center Encore pistol
It shoots a wide variety of calibers also but all you have to do is buy different barrels, a company called (MGM)
Match Grade Machine makes any caliber you want (almost any) including the new 350 legend and 450 bushmaster
I have that exact same rifle !
Har veldig lyst på en Ruger no 1 i .375 H&H. Jakter med det kalibret nå i ei boltrifle, men det er bare noe helt spesielt med ei enkeltskuddsrifle! Takk for fin video og skitt jakt når den tid kommer.
kjempe video! Oh, that was a good vending, maybe we can use it in another episode! hilsen fra sørlandet!:) Ruger no 1 tropical i 375 H&H blir jaktbørs nr 1 i 2021!
I also have a Blaser K95 in 6,5x55 and 30-06.. Love single shots!
Bruker du kikkert på din Ruger No. 1..? 375 H&H er jo Afrika kaliberet over alle..!
Had one of these and sold it because I couldn’t make it shoot quite as accurate as a bolt. Big mistake, plenty accurate enough and major cool factor. One of the several I wished I didn’t sell.
Got the same problem! To many that I wish I did not sell..!
I have the medium sporter chambered in .270. I think it is a great choice to hunt with.
Of all the hunting firearms in the world, that's the one I want most.
My proximate price estimate is for second hand samples.
I have a Ruger number one chambered and 270 Winchester it's the most beautiful gun in my safe and collection. I need to get it out and make another video myself I have a channel called Love The Hunt under my name John Rankin. I have a couple of shooting reviews if you like to check it out.
Beautiful rifle. A cold barrel rifle? Here in Canada they all have to be. When they get hot it's way too late... Nice video!
Thank you, I`l bet there is about the same temperature in Canada and in Norway.
@@snapshotscorner5542 I have a Standard in .308. I love it as much as you love yours. Those who do not understand why anyone should have a single shot rifle should not have one.
@@jeanmorin3247 what is the best accuracy you can get from the 308? Am thinking to by one..
@@KolyaNickD I can only say that the rifle shoots a lot better than me...
I love 💕 my #1 in 300 H&H
The #1 is a lovable rifle in deed..!
My 100 yard group with my 2506 is less than 3/8 of an inch
So bout you and the rifle shoot great, so I belief!
I want one In 4570 stainless steel
My English is broken cause I am in Norway, I still admire your sub MOA group with your 2506...!
Sounds like these #1 rifles vary in accuracy according to calibre. I would be buying one in 308 and firing light 115 grains or so. Wonder what it can do.. Must be similar to this one.
I have two of them. 300 Win Mag/#1V, 7x57 mm/ Light sporter. Both shoot 1/2" at 350yrd's.
They are both great calibres in an exeptipnal awesome rifle..!
i think the "...best evermade..." is a stretch.
Depending on the load 1moa all day.
Hey, cool. Looking forward to it.
Love all single shots!!
Used rifle price here in alberta is about 1200 last time i checked
Prices has gone up lately, say that is almost the double of what I paid second hand for mine!
I might like one in 6.5 x55mm
6,5 x 55 is a very common caliber up here in Norway and Scandinavia. I have a "Lang Krag" in the said 6,5 x 55, but as it have only one lug on the bolt it is prone to hit in a string up/left if the bolt or the chamber gets wet. It is actually the same rifle the Norwegians did fight the Germans with in 1940. There will be a video on this rifle during this summer..!
I have a Ruger number 1 in 270 Winchester with a Leopold 2.52 10x by 50 and I will match that rifle against anything under seven hundred and fifty yards
Sounds like a dead ringer for your Alaskan caribou.
@@snapshotscorner5542 in a sled mine is shooting dime size groups at 100 yards with Hornaday loads,my browning is 1.5 at 100.
Hey bud its been a while but how did you get that gloss look on the wood on your no1,mine is a dull finish like all of them are,I love your finish.

It goes back to the old saying one shot 1 kill if you can't put the animal down with one shot you shouldn't be hunting before you ever go out hunting you should always know your rifle and you're stopping power when you come up against an animal it should always know what you will need to stop and put the animal down with one shot and make sure that the animal does not suffer the most Humane thing to do stop the heart with one shot this way the animal does not suffer and it goes down immediately and you must train for that how long time which I always did my father taught me that
if this rifle existed in say 7mm wby with an appropriate barrel and weight would gladly buy it.
I would not be surprised if Ruger did chamber the No. 1 in your preferred caliber one day.
I say BS. Most accurate, you’re not accurate.
Once you've hunted men an like it ,there is no other hunting ,1shot 1 kill a magazin allways you to kill more then one query ..,
With all that gear why didn't u buy a real bench to shoot ftom ,u can't tell if it's you or the rifel so
