Robert Towne was one of the best writers and directors ever. He was like how Christopher mcquarrie is now with Tom cruise since he wrote for Cruise’s movies from days of thunder to the firm to mission impossible 1 and 2. He will be missed. RIP Bob, you wrote one of the best movies with Mel Gibson and Kurt Russell along with Chinatown with Jack Nicholson.

Actually, Robert Towne wrote Tequila Sunrise for Jeff Bridges and Nick Nolte to star.
He had basketball coach Pat Riley in mind for Nick Frescia.
And Harrison Ford and Alec Baldwin too. But Mel Gibson and Kurt Russell were great together in that movie.
