I just recently found Mr. Bernarr. He is ABSOLUTELY FUCKING AMAZING. I listen to his solo when he was with Ericka. I AM HOOKED.. YOUR VOICE IS PERFECTION. IM 67yo and would love to come to your show.
Durand Bernard is 100% everything…real, raw, incredibly smart, an archive of histories, and can sing his face off with music he wrote delivering the facts of love and life. I cannot sing this man’s praises enough. Ride a die.
Mt.Rushmore 38:58 ... PHYLLIS HYMAN, who we also called 'Mother' ... thank you Durand. People don't really know how incredible a vocalist Phyllis was/is. There is no equal.
She's my mother's favorite singer as well. Miss Phyllis was built different, unfortunately she was experiencing deep emotional pain. We'll always love you Miss Phyllis.
About Sade, I was also at the last one because I knew that she doesn't leave the house so I got the Amex and got that early ticket. And that show was one of the most beautiful shows. Like it defined and continues to define the word beauty for me. Her stage presence is truly unmatched. She barely moves, no obvious gesticulations no acrobatic vocal gymnastics and yet we were all captivated. I left just feeling washed in beauty. "Not going to school kept me critical thinking intact, kept my curiosity intact" a quote
The one thing I love about him is he is such a musical library and not just from one genre. I have been following him for a few years now, and he is just incredibly talented. I'm so happy for him and his success
Another fun fact, Derand Benarr's tiny desk popped on my screen while i was on shrooms😂 its funny to hear him talk about it knowing it's how I vibrationally met him. This is even more uncanny AND we're both Virgos😂
What he said about the impact of having older parents and being homeschooled! I LOVED IT! his words also encouraged me as a homeschooling parent who had her youngest child at 36.
I adore Durand so much. He’s immensely talented. The first time I heard and saw him, I immediately got little Richard vibes. I NEED that Earth, Wind, and Fire track expeditiously
An amazing interview with the legend that is Durand. Love how he flexed different sides of himself and his talents not just musically but philosophically. His parents did good 👍🏽
I've been following Durand and have been a fan of his for years. Always excited about anything he does. Listening to him right now, doesn't he remind you of those old school artists that would sit and talk about their stories of times with other great artists, tour moments, artists they admire, etc? Like, it reminds me of Patti Labelle. I can sit and listen to Patti talk about different stories and experiences and thoughts of different things in music for the rest of my life. And he is such an artist how he just talks about art, even his own and things he does. Also with his personality, like a Patti or Babyface or Prince, it is what makes those experiences and thoughts that he shares more interesting. Durand is that artist where we love his interviews, well, sit downs just as much as his artistry because everything is an artist. Durand is an artist
Funny thing about Durand Bernarr, my first time listening to him was through NPR tiny desk, and while I was listening to his tiny desk, he was performing down the street (walking distance) from my house in Dallas (Addison to be exact) Texas. After I finished watching his tiny desk, I went to check his tour dates to see if I could catch a show, and I was floored when I saw he was already here performing down the street. I was like nooooooo 😂
What he said about Mariah and Whitney is LITERALLY my thoughts and Lisa Fischer and Rick james too...But I'm surprised no one mentioned Rachelle Ferrell tho.
Im a new fan because of Durrand and I gotta say this is a great podcast that y'all created and it's so beneficial. in terms of music and in life in general. Hearing from y'all and also hearing from Durrand and y'all perspectives on music, art and life is a blessing 💜
I love Durand's Mount Rushmore breakdown! I was super excited to hear that his best friend would be Bugs Bunny. My favorite character of all characters in animation world is Bugs Bunny!
I love me some Durand. So talented. Definitely gives Rick James with a little Dave chapelle. As far as no love songs lately in R&B Tank spoke about it on drink kings. He said it's okay for a Sam Smith to right stay with me or wrote an actual love song. But an R&B artist won't get in rotation because labels want violence are threatened by our love. He made an entire love album a few years ago that featured the song "star" and it flopped. But it was a beautiful album . Unfortunately sex sales
First of all, Durand is one of my fave humans everrrr. This man is magical in person. I can't wait to see him this weekend. I, too, have been looking for Mona Lisa & Myron. Folks be getting gone. Lol, I really appreciated this interview so much. I'm kind of salty that I'm just finding out about it. Lol
I have a new found respect for Durand. He is truly gifted. He has so much wisdom and knowledge that was bestowed upon him. I really enjoyed this podcast. Thank you guys for sharing your love of music as I do as well. Keep up the good work..
I agree. I wish he would’ve had an unsung episode or at least one of those vocal challenges where talented singers would try to sing his song(s) … although You was his biggest and known hit, but something like Tank did when he created that vocal challenge for “Can We Talk” by Tevin Campbell and the “Fortunate” by Maxwell challenge…. I wish someone could have thought of that prior to Jesses passing. I just hope he knew that so many loved his music and always supported him even when he stopped pursuing music.
Listen….. I’ve been following Durand Bernarr since he was singing DOWN in his room on TH-cam. I seen him in 2019 in South Florida and I went crazy. While he was performing I was so hype and I saw him coming closer to me and I just hugged. I will never forget that. I’m so mad I missed him in Palm Beach bc I don’t really be on IG and didn’t see his list of cities. I’m so mad I missed it but I will check next time. I LOVE YOU DURAND BERNARR! You are the best 💛🛼!!
London is already sold out at the Jazz Cafe in November '23. I've seen artists come and go during the past 30 years, I had a sense of Durand's energy and authenticity a while back. For me, knowing his raw technical foundation and experience in terms of being a vocalist and writer makes it a life-affirming and exciting experience to witness his music and soul. I'm not the only one who feels this way, this is why London is sold out!
I have been a fan of Durand Bernarr and his music, ever since I first saw and heard him on the television show The Four, which is a singing competition. After I heard him sing, I just had to follow him l. He sounds great on a record and more importantly, he sounds great live. There are some artists today that sound great on a record, but they don’t sound that good live., either because they haven’t put in enough rehearsal time or because they don’t have the vocal talent. Durand Bernarr sounds great live and he can sing practically anything. He’s the total package.
I think Keke Wyatt can nail that Lisa Fischer song, and I am so shocked that Rachelle Ferrell didn't get an honorable mention when talking about the vocal Bible. I heard someone say no one wants to sing with her because they don't know what to do with her 😂 (this was said in gest of course), although Lalah Hathaway harmonizes well with her. Rachelle Ferrell and Phyllis Hyman would definitely be on my Mount Rushmore 😊
45:10 this is exactly how I felt when I stopped believing in God, going to church, following the bible etc. Having faith makes you feel like you're a terrible person and it's exhausting. The truth will set you free.
I don't understand the obsession with one of these cohosts to "humble" Brandy or make sure certain people don't see her as the Vocal Bible in the music industry. "Vocal Bible" doesn't mean greatest of all time lol if thousands of Artists and singers alike want to call her that (that's how she got the name) then that's just what she is. A personal study guide for many MANY singers, more than anyone even thinks. Period.
Love Brandy. Not calling her the “vocal bible” - that’s a stretch for me. As I said in the episode, a chapter in the boo , but NOT the entire (Vocal) Bible. Thanks for watching. 🙏🏾
@@philthornton5110 i get that but that’s for people that take “vocal Bible” in the literal sense, which i never understood. It’s not a stretch if all of these singers (including Jazmine) call her that. She can be the Vocal Bible for other another singer, it still doesn’t mean “greater than everyone else” or the only example of singing. I think that’s where folks get confused and offended. But i love your hosting style and the show by the way! You do great work
@@philthornton5110 a lot of singers have nicknames or a certain way that they’re viewed and no one tries to take that away from them. Let Brandy have that lol even she would tell you the title makes her uncomfortable because people take it in a negative way. She would never put herself above Whitney for example, as it isn’t a nickname meant for comparison. That’s all I’m saying
Each chat with Durand is different and this one focused on the music. Loved it. Thanks y'all 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I just recently found Mr. Bernarr. He is ABSOLUTELY FUCKING AMAZING. I listen to his solo when he was with Ericka. I AM HOOKED..
YOUR VOICE IS PERFECTION. IM 67yo and would love to come to your show.
Durand is a TRUE artist! Ain’t no denying.
Durand Bernard is 100% everything…real, raw, incredibly smart, an archive of histories, and can sing his face off with music he wrote delivering the facts of love and life. I cannot sing this man’s praises enough. Ride a die.
“To be in the position where you can inspire your inspiration…” this gave ME Chills!!! I just loveeee Durand!!
Mt.Rushmore 38:58 ... PHYLLIS HYMAN, who we also called 'Mother' ... thank you Durand. People don't really know how incredible a vocalist Phyllis was/is. There is no equal.
Phyllis Hyman was my late mother’s favorite singer! She STAYED playing “ You Know How To Love Me”
She's my mother's favorite singer as well. Miss Phyllis was built different, unfortunately she was experiencing deep emotional pain. We'll always love you Miss Phyllis.
He is the most freest, performative and captivating artist I have seen in my lifetime.
of the current artists I listen to, I think PJ Morton & BJ the Chicago Kid are answers to a recent male artist who has made love songs.
About Sade, I was also at the last one because I knew that she doesn't leave the house so I got the Amex and got that early ticket. And that show was one of the most beautiful shows. "Not going to school kept me critical thinking intact, kept my curiosity intact" a quote
I love how he doesn't cringe at his old work and he can still play along with it, 1:05:40
It’s still a bop right now in 2024
The one thing I love about him is he is such a musical library and not just from one genre. I have been following him for a few years now, and he is just incredibly talented. I'm so happy for him and his success
"Having faith makes me sad." THIS.
The Base Guitar 🎸 will Send you to another level Of happiness
I have such a crush on Durand's talent. His voice is touching my soul at the bottom.
Another fun fact, Derand Benarr's tiny desk popped on my screen while i was on shrooms😂 its funny to hear him talk about it knowing it's how I vibrationally met him. This is even more uncanny AND we're both Virgos😂
Your comment tickled me lol
Wow I love this moment for you
It's so funny that I found Durand from his Lisa Fischer cover. Literally my fave
Durand is everything 😂 and I mean everything
BIG Facts!! 💯💯🤗💛

I love that Durand is growing! I’ve been stuck on him ever since I seen him on the Terrell show.
I love this podcast and Durand Bernarr is hilarious I would love to see him in concert again. This time make the meet & greet.

Great episode! His parents raised him well and his knowledge of music and artists is crazy.
Durand and Meshell two of my absolute favourites.
I love him so much.

Yall are so blessed. My ass is stuck in South Africa. 😢😂
Love love love Durand!!!! Such a beautiful soul!
Throughout this entire video, I have been pausing and listening to every song that Durand mentioned, he did NOT disappoint 😭😭
Anthony David is another great mention!!
What he said about Mariah and Whitney is LITERALLY my thoughts and Lisa Fischer and Rick james too...But I'm surprised no one mentioned Rachelle Ferrell tho.
Jerome thomas has some good r&b soul music. "The 1" is a beautiful song!
I’ve been looking for this language!! Yes, I identify as a Churchy Atheist 🙏🏽
I love durand !!!
This conversation was so amazing ❤
I love Durand’s authenticity

What a Dynamic interview!
Every time the host say " Derand " I think of the 80's group "Duran Duran" loool
I saw him on the scorpion show, and my jaw was on the floor!
LMFAO CRISPY CHICKEN TOOK ME OUT 😭😭
This episode was amazing and worth the wait!
I loveeeeee Durand!!!!!
That cover was how I started following Durand Bernarr. I have been a cousin ever since. I love you all!!!😊

Love this guy, what an impeccable human being!
I love Durand. He just seems dope AF AND let me subscribe real quick. I had no idea you guys had a podcast.
I definitely compared him vocally to Prince! For sure!
Came to like and comment so I can remember to watch later 😂
The 1st 20 seconds shows the ear of tone and pitch between three similar artists. This guy needs a lecture hall on r&b.
In love ! Durand is a gem... amazing pod ❤❤❤
Y’all were name dropping alll the Sade classics. She is still on play in my car. Love this interview ❤
THIS!! I enjoyed every minute. You guys need more numbers, you have great GREAT content.

What a phenomenal interview definitely one of my favs so far.
Can we nominate Jesse Powell for the Ester Rolle Award? He had one of the most amazing voices and no one ever talks about him.

LEVELED
Great Episode !!
Side note: if you have not heard Lisa Fiscer sing "How Can I Ease the Pain" post 2015, you are doing yourselves a disservice.
Yo loved the podcast what mic do you use on the pod please ?
Crash Cut and E40 favor too!
Chante Moore is the only person I can think of who can cover “How can I ease the pain”
Le’andria Johnson has got to be in the mix! To me she is the gospel Beyoncé.
