  • Sorry for the video cutting off the top of my head. I think I hit zoom on the camera before setting it up so I couldn't do anything about it when editing.

    If the concept of the superfood has any genuine merit, kabocha should rank quite high on the list!

    I wish you would have included pickled daikon or miso daikon. Daikon is one of my favorite vegetables. Maybe introduce people to Oden since cold weather season is afoot.

      I love oden. Will have to think about how to put that together. Would like to find a proper oden spot rather than just do 711 or something (which admittedly is what I normally do IRL).

      @@ExjapterThat would be awesome. Conbini would be good because they have pictures, prices and descriptions of the items in the Oden tub.

    My two favorite dishes are the kabocha and kinpira gobo….do you agree…these dishes are very healthy and oishi

      I love both of those, and they are some essentials to balanced Japanese meals.

      Yeah, that one is a treat. Considering they grow kabocha in Mexico I wonder why they don't show up on American shelves.

    I’m ashamed to say that I’ve only tried one of these. I’ve got some work to do. Haha. 😅

      Kinpira? That's the most common one, anyways.

      @@Exjapter well, I'm not much of a cook, so I haven't actively sought it out in a grocery store. Otherwise, I don't think it's super common in the restaurant scene. I first had it at your old restaurant (downtown location), and I know there's a dish with it at a Laotian restaurant. Both offerings were prepared with some coconut curry sauce, I believe.

    Besides the broth most of these side dishes seem to be vegetarian. What are Japanese vegetarian main dishes? Or is that not a thing in Japan?

    • @Exjapter
      @Exjapter  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's a good point. Most side dishes do tend to be meatless and are meant to compliment the main protein. True vegetarian dishes are not common. The most famous example of actual vegetarian meals are the tofu based meals developed in Kyoto due to the Buddhist monks there who don't eat meat. If you find yourself in Kyoto I highly recommend trying one of the restaurants that specialize in tofu course menus. It's amazing how versatile it actually is.

    Do you think konyaku cleans your intestines or is that just a myth?🤣

    • @Exjapter
      @Exjapter  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I hate the stuff, so my intestines must be dirty. Adding the konyaku to the bamboo was not 711s best move as far as I am concerned.
