A Gikuyu born at the coast not knowing anything about the tribe but immediately they started praying I felt something I cannot explain or understand, but a very immense thirst & urge for wanting to understand the culture.
John same as the Israelite's had their baals, even the kikuyu have their baals.. And they are so hard to let go for some people.. First.. Ngai only refers to the creator.. It is not a general word, it refers to the one and only... So we cannot use it to say "other gods" ... I do agree with you, some terms in the prayer are ish ish.. e.g. Murungu (dweller of the underworld) that Baba Kigotho i dont even know what it means.. But something in me says it is not proper.
Also to add, if your are a follower of christ. Remove this from your life and prayer life, also pray about them, I am sure Ngai will answer. First remove all asherah poles, that is the crosses you call christian crosses... Remove these baal names, halleluiyah, yahweh, jehovah, amen... Come back to simplicity in prayer, Like our Father who is in heaven.. Also these kikuyu prayers are not all bad, they point to a spiritual way of praying, unlike in english where its almost repetitive and corporate.
Theybactually preyed on the spirituality of Africans to impose thebnew religions. Many atimes weve been told we were backward, evil and uncouth but if you study closeñy youll realize we had ways of life , belief systems and some pretty descent religius systems.
It's easy to think this is the truth if you don't know God, the only true God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. May God's light shine upon our people.
