- Chinese Lunar New Year in Singapore may be the best time for us to venture around without crowds. This is especially true with parks.
So, instead of driving, we took the MRT to Vivo City and walked to the boardwalk, via Keppel Bay Bridge past both the Coral and Reflections condominiums and residences. This meets at the Bukit Chermin Boardwalk which in turn leads to Berlaya walk thence to Labrador Park.
Before leaving the park, we venture up the hill to see the old Gun Battery which are remnants of canons used by the British to “protect” Singapore. But as we all know, they faced the wrong way, and the Japanese were able to storm Singapore by riding their bicycles through Johore.
A short MRT ride brings us to Chinatown, which being the third day of CNY ensured that the streets and food houses were chockablock full. So after 20 minutes of taking the obligatory pictures, we headed out to Little India.
We were rewarded with smaller crowds and more accessible cafes and restaurants. After a spot of shopping for the most colourful and tasty of fruits, we pulled into our favourite Indian restaurant on Race Course Road - Gayatri. The delicious meal delivered a truly tasty treat as we wolfed down chunks of fresh Masala prawns and Chicken curry. Before we had time to get hit by the food coma, we were on the train home.
It was truly a wonderful outing to see life in West Singapore!
