I love your retrospectives. I recently played the pixel remasters during a Final Fantasy benge I was doing where I was 100% platinum trophying every Final Fantasy. Only have Lightning Returns and X-2 to complete.
The GBA versions of 1&2 are largely the same as the PSP versions but with different graphics. 4,5&6 also have solid GBA releases as well. But if you're emulating anyway, I'd play the SNES versions of those as they have a better color palette and higher quality audio.
I love how you talk about mentioning your characters after friends. I do this for the Worms series of games. I left Europe for Japan over a decade ago, so haven't seen some of my friends for that long, though we still message each other. Having the name of my friends on game characters gives me the same feeling as you do Billum, about feeling closer again, etc. In fact, on of my closest friends died of a illness many years back. But he lives on as a Worm soldier, and he will do until the day I die.
Thanks! That was a part I was unsure about leaving in since it's so personal but I'm glad it resonated with you. None of my friends are gone yet but I understand your thought on letting them live on in your save data. I sympathize with you on that.
Hey Billum, nice review, well I think that because I did play the original on the NES way back then, even with is bugs, I always love to go back and make a run on it :)
Thanks! I enjoy the NES version but I'm spoiled by starting with Origins. It's probably the main reason I'll only play FFNES with the Restored patch now.
I do the same thing with naming characters in FF games. Those names are just set in stone for me at this point. Such a shame my favourites FF5 and FF8 only lets you rename 1/2 characters. :'(
@@FiresideGamingReviews Any thoughts on the Labyrinth of Time or the other optional places in the PSP version btw? Chronodia is an interesting super boss design and fits well with the themes of time travel even if the dungeon itself can be a real headache for a completionist.
@FinalFrantasy I see it all as wasted potential. There was a real chance to do something cool there with the lore of FF1 and themes of the dungeon and Chronodia but SE dropped the ball. It reminds me of all the bonus content in Chrono Trigger DS. It's a bunch of annoying busy work but at least that had a good payoff. I wish FF1's bonus stuff would've been similar to Soul of Rebirth or After Years in actually having a solid addition to story and lore.
I love the final fantasy love here!!

Thanks, man. Yeah, those are two games that I've never beaten. Came close on X-2 back in the day but burned out near the end.
Are the GBA versions decent cuz I emulate most games I play looking to try a series after shining soul 2

For me it's really a thing in FF1 since they don't have preset names. Might do it in 3 as well. Also, good taste. FFV is my personal favorite.
