Great video! This was the best video I could find with someone using the Lisle ridge reamer that I bought. Thank you for explaining how to use it because I wasn’t sure why mine was chattering.

    Hi Mike
You could use a magnet 🧲 to collect the loose shaving before you remove the microfibre cloth would reduce the risk of dropping shaving down the bores
    Great video

I think the warning on the box is fairly accurate.
Spending hours in a shed, working on Land Rovers, is almost certainly going to harm your chances of reproducing.

Love the comment on the cancer warning. Sums up 2021 perfectly! I'll have to say this reamer is extremely sketchy trying to cut a ridge on a flathead with a depressed deck section in the combustion chamber area. Same problem here, couldn't find anything else available.

Interesting tool. Had to take more material off than I expected. Thought it would be more carbon build up. And p.s you're on the same page as me re the Fluvid.

Hi Mike, do you cut dry or use cutting fluid? Thanks, Ivor

  • @WhosAGoodDogue
    @WhosAGoodDogue 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Is that thing meant to cut dry, or can you use cutting oil - the microfible would soak up the oil, and the swarf would stick better with less chance of falling off on removal? Would there be less chance of it jumping if lubed up a bit? I dunno - never used one before, so probably talking oot me erse. ;)

cast iron so can be cut dry but it only removes a little at a time

Would have worked better if you use some sort of cutting fluid?

If that reamer can cause reproductive harm you'd have to wonder what it's made to ream out? I'd think a local anesthetic would be a minimum. 😏

Ye olde ring ridge remover. Haven't seen one of those for a while. Used to see ring ridge on Holden inline 6 engines for a while. I used to wonder if they went through a bad patch with their casings.

Never used one of those, just Emery cloth to reduce the lip….then keep the revs down for a while.

Great tip about the “sacrificial” micro fibre cloth. Though this would be a lot more effective if it were impregnated with Dubbin, as the swarf would stick where it fell. And ensure a much easier clean up.

Mike, would some sort of cutting fluid / lubricant help with the chattering of the blade as it cuts, or is that not recommended when cutting the carbon?

Nothing like a good bit of reeming however as the box says don’t go too far or it could widen the bore too much meaning your piston rattles around and the reproductive chance will be less.
    🤣
