I've always loved Gary, and the older I get I realize that his parents were an integral part of his career. Not just with the management and costumes, but their long term positivity regarding his aspirations to be a musician. A bond with that level of trust and respect for each other is priceless, what a charming family.
I used to go see The Song Remains the Same at the Danforth Music Hall in 81/82/83. Good times! Love Gary too. His first 4 albums are epic. Thanks for sharing. 👍
That's frickin AWESOME that his parents were so supportive of his career! My parents told me that "playing guitar is nice but it's never really a job, and people like you don't get famous they get jobs." I'll never forget it as long as I live. 😂 I still play, mostly by myself.
Really enjoyed that video from 1980. Takes me back. Great insight into Gary at that age. And the start contrast between being interviewed and performing. Very different characters ❤
Me too, I was around 12 in 1983 and first discovered him when I happened to rent "Urgh a Music War" from a local video store. Watched the "Down in the Park" segment over and over and was hooked. Still a fan at 50.
Huge influence on me too. I had the pleasure of being at his first ever major gig (Glasgow Apollo, 20th September 1979, supported by OMD!). I was 16, so probably also got my first Tubeway Army album when I was 15. I think it was just my second gig after Blondie (Edinburgh Odeon,13th September 1978). I still have the Replicas and Pleasure Principle ties (black, and blue/red). Only discovered both that I was an aspie and so was Gary a few years ago. Still most comfortable wearing black. 😺
He was way ahead of his time with the view on machines would destroy us.. thus the internet, we live in a computer world and then there’s the media. Way ahead of his time.
Who would have thought that Tony Webb. Gary's father would be so right. He was in it for years to come and still in it now. And for that we are all truly grateful aren't we? I think Tony just had a bit of foresight and Beryl rest in peace. Took care of all his wardrobe and makeup. Oh hell Gary is a lot different in interviews today. Thanks for the upload fella.
I can tell he is a bit thin skinned and is hurt by criticism but he overcame all that and expressed himself nonetheless. And many people enjoy his music. So he’s a winner! I like his songs and style. I don’t think he’s a great singer but he does have a distinctive voice that suits his music well. So that’s what matters. He succeeded.
From The New Music show, yes? That's Jeanne Beker interviewing him. I think it says Much Music in the bottom right corner (not clear enough for these old eyes of mine), but MM didn't start til '84 (though they probably got the rights for the video as The New Music was its predecessor ). Love this :)
Check out Nash The Slash with what looks like snake skin face covering instead of the usual bandages. Gary Numan and Nash The Slash.....man, you really did get to see new and interesting shit back then.

Prophectic words from his father, ' i think he will be in it from a long time to come'. Dads always know best.

He was so beautiful
I'm sure Gary will appreciate your comment
bless him
Like Father like Son.. Spitting image of him !
Such a soft spoken humble man...changed my life
How did this change your life?
Brilliant. 40 years later and we are still going to his concerts (well; before Covid). Absolutely love him. Xx.
The man is a phenomenon.
Good job Dad! Garys' music has been a part of my life for most of it!
Really enjoyed that video from 1980. Takes me back. Great insight into Gary at that age. And the start contrast between being interviewed and performing. Very different characters ❤
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching and commenting Neil
Numan changed EVERYTHING for this 15 year old kid.
Same here, I think I was 14 (1980?) when I discovered him, and I just got more and more into him, and today he's still one of my very top artists.

Same here, but 25 years later
Great analysis of an amazing album thanks for posting 👍👍
amazing interview - interviewer is brilliant - Gary and his family are amazing - God bless
Thanks for watching and commenting Mark
Amazing tour😊
I think he is so sweet bless him
And he's still rocking making killer tunes!
He was way ahead of his time with the view on machines would destroy us.. thus the internet, we live in a computer world and then there’s the media. Way ahead of his time.
Considering this was a home taping from 1980, the quality is excellent.
Wow! Jeannie Becker from much music ahhh the good old days...
mr Numan is still humble and down to earth
So humble.....
Thanks for posting this video. Great to see a young and shy Gary being interviewed.
Thanks for watching and commenting Paul.
I love Gary so so much especially now he is older he is so gorgeously gothic
The sweet sound of those old analog synths
his father was a good guy

Numan is superbe..and the girl is very nice...

A video treasure. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed this, hope you watched until the end, there's a link at the very end to a Numan concert you may never have seen before.
Brilliant flash-back from 44 years ago. : )
Great footage, very nice! Never saw his father in the early days and even talking. Thanks

Came for the Numan, stayed for the Nash :)
I wish there was more of the Nash

Russell a legend
He bought a mansion in Wentworth Estate, Virginia Water,Surrey.
Great footage of my local music hero
Thanks for watching and commenting Mark

Ty for posting this, AWESOME!
No problem!
The real master
What a great video thanks for posting 👍
My dad said the same thing about my writing 😂🖤
What a show ..Awesum T A
I'm glad you enjoyed this
Gary Numan, a mention for Nash and STV, like an early Christmas present. Thanks to all.😉
Your mention of Nash shows you watched until the very end, thank you Martin.
And no bandages on Nash... a rare public moment.
@@ScottishTeeVee I sure did gents/ladies, don't want to be disrespectful in case STV involves not only gents.👍
this where the days...
would be fantastic to see a cleaned up version from the final live performances in this vid…
all the best
S
It would be but I don't think it will ever happen
I saw this tour when I was 10, shaped my life.
You lucky person, prime time to see Gary
How on earth can a concert shape your life? Get a grip and some therapy.
I saw Praying to the Aliens on Saturday Night Live.
That was a good few years ago
That was the first time I saw Gary Nimman on US television. It was like nothing I’d ever seen before!
From The New Music show, yes? That's Jeanne Beker interviewing him. Jeanne Becker (sp? was a great interviewer. I always looked forward to the weekly episode of The New Music.
Sadly Jeanne is battling cancer.
Lol that bouncer wasn’t letting that guy bring his own beer in!
Me I disconnect from you ..love it
Well. His. Dad. Was right😊
Synth pop hero... Kraftwerk too mechanical, Bowie too guitar laden, Numan... cinematic man of music's future
Agreed 🙂🍻
Bowie..not always AKA 'Low'
aspergers is hard going sometimes i should know
11:32 whats the name of the song? its brilliant
Sorry I don't know, perhaps another viewer can assist.
"Me, I disconnect from you". Yep, great song. :)
Shame all that concert isn’t about on dvd would sell like hot cakes 👌
There must be so much great concert video from this era somewhere
Hi @ScottishTeeVee, do you know the origin of the footage? Like the TV channel and the show? :) Thank you!
Much Music, the New Music Show
@@ScottishTeeVee Thank you!!
Okay, confession time. I was never that big of a fan of Numan. I didn't dislike him. I just didn't really listen to him. Still, this is nice.
Ill sleep tonight knowing that
Pfffft lol
Check out Nash The Slash with what looks like snake skin face covering instead of the usual bandages.
Gary Numan and Nash The Slash.....man, you really did get to see new and interesting shit back then.
I do have Nash The Slash from this TV show, around the same time, an interesting artist.
His Dad looks like Frank Sinatra, and a lot like Gary.
Don't care for the women who interviewed him.
