The money and, inevitably, the gap in quality between the Scottish and English leagues has become huge. When I was a kid, 5th in Scotland versus 7th in England would have been competitive.
Villa fan, enjoyed the vid mate, although the tie appears to be done and dusted now, it was good to have a tie with a Scottish club and I wish Hibs all the best for the season, I was expecting a more closer score, but the gap in experience was a little more in Villas favour. I will be at Villa Park next week, I think we will rest a lot of the players that played t other night and if Hibs just go out to enjoy the occasion, the score could be closer than the 5-0 we have just seen. I wish the Hibs fans travelling down, a safe journey and enjoy the day/night at Villa Park. All the best.

That's what Spurs did against Hearts in 2011. Villa should really show us mercy and do the same, give their youngsters a game. While it's not the first European home game you were hoping for, you'll get three group games against better teams.
The budget they have to operate on would be akin to a decent League 1 side in contention for a promotion push to the Championship, so a fair comparison.

You NEVER walk on it always walk round it. Locals spit on it. I’ve heard a few stories why. As an Evertom and Hibs fan, Villa have dished out hammerings to both my English and my Scottish club in the space of 3 days. Hibs have much more of an excuse mind. Emery has put together a very tasty side who will surely go on to win this competition.

Why this obsession with comparing Scottish leagues to English leagues? English club football has gone into a different financial stratosphere, compared to Italy, Spain and Germany - let alone Scotland. It’s not as if Scottish football is struggling with attendances. It still punches above its weight for a nation of its size. It’s football culture has attributes that the English have lost - something this channel conveys very well. It’s more accessible, it’s more affordable, it’s more passionate, the fan-club relationship isn’t as disconnected. Just be thankful for what Scottish football does have - rather than what it doesn’t.

Sam, I am a DUFC fan who has been travelling from Northern Ireland since 1980. In those days we were able to compete well with England. The Premier league south and the emergence of Rangers and Celtic as unmovable forces have left the rest of Scotland way behind. I don't believe that the Big Two would survive comfortably in England and the rest would be lower Championship and League 1. Pains me to say it but you saw proof of that fact last night. I watch the Belgian league quite a bit. I thought Brugge would struggle without Noa Lang after losing De Kaetelaere the year before, but they've started the season on fire, some result against Molenbeek at the weekend, Andrea Skov Olsen is on fire! Would love to see them do well in Europe.

Rangers and Celtic would be top half of the Championship those days - at best. I think the gap to Premiership level is now there. Teams like Hearts and Hibs would be mid-lower level Championship. The gap has grown. Global TV revenue is the reason; not necessarily how the clubs are managed.
Scottish football is bankrupt. No money and no investment therefore no means to compete. It has one of the poorest TV investment deals in European football from Sky. And we're locked into it till 2030. It has such poor viewership that no TV company wants to invest in it. Sky and BT would rather just throw all their money at England.

For me Hibs would be in League 2 in the English leagues. A lot of money in that league with the likes of Stockport, Notts County, Wrexham, Salford etc… Hibs are no better than these kind of teams. Rangers and Celtic would be top half of the Championship those days - at best. I think the gap to Premiership level is now there. Teams like Hearts and Hibs would be mid-lower level Championship. The gap has grown. Global TV revenue is the reason; not necessarily how the clubs are managed.
Scottish football is bankrupt. No money and no investment therefore no means to compete. It has one of the poorest TV investment deals in European football from Sky. And we're locked into it till 2030. It has such poor viewership that no TV company wants to invest in it. Sky and BT would rather just throw all their money at England.

As said mate wasn't sure no Hibs had no tickets left but went into a villa site today and seemingly they only sold 1000 out of 3000 allocation so your probably right mate but still sure uefa block seat for safety reasons

For me Hibs would be in League 2 in the English leagues. A lot of money in that league with the likes of Stockport, Notts County, Wrexham, Salford etc… Hibs are no better than these kind of teams. E clubs make it so difficult for supporters to buy tickets! You had to be a season ticket holder and gone to loads of away games, then you had to submit travel plans and pick up ticket in Edinburgh. No wonder some fans were put off!

It was never going to be a battle Hib's most expensive player cost 1 million whilst Aston Villas was 50 million even Villas 2nd choice goalkeeper cost more than Hib's most expensive so this is what they were up against it was never going to be anything else but a hammering the financial might is far too much between them both.
Villa are vastly bigger than Hibs in every way possible.

Villa would have trounced Hearts, Aberdeen and the Glasgow duopoly. Hibs have had a poor league start due to focus on Europe but other than Rangers and Celtic they're as good if not better than Hearts and Aberdeen whom we horsed 6-0 last season could have been 12-0 tbh.
