  • Physical assessment is the baseline of everything we do in nursing and is the first step in the nursing process. This video includes a focused respiratory assessment in a head-to-toe fashion. It details the examination and hones in on inspection, palpation, percussion, and ausculatation of the patients' chest. It further includes a demonstration of chest excursion.

Hi, good demonstration there. A question please. If you are tasked to perform an assessment bring it pain assessment, respiratory, abdominal cardio etc, do you always have to check vital signs before the focused assessment?

It is good practice to incorporate VS into any assessment as they provide important details about the patients' overall status and complete the data gathering process. For any clinical practice evaluations, please check with your instructor.

For the focus assessment why is it necessary to check the abdominal region for bowel sounds?

A head-to-toe assessment should always include all basic elements while focusing on a particular problem area, in this case the respiratory system.
Check out my video where I explaint the difference between a focused and a head-to-toe assessment: th-cam.com/video/2Cy0MmtS_pk/w-d-xo.html
      Good luck in your studies!
