    Nick, your videos have been inspiring me more and more every day. I've been interested in joining the military since I was 10 years old, but I held myself back for years out of fear of what others think. But over the last few years, I've learned to accept myself in that it doesn't matter how tall or strong you are physically, it matters about the mental strength you have to get there. I've been quitting smoking, quitting drinking, learning math (which I haven't done since high school then I went to college), and getting my motivation back to work out regularly again. I watched one of your videos last night, and I dreamt last night that you told me to get up because it's time to run. So I got up at 6am and went for a run, in the rain with a wind warning. Day 1, but you helped me get there. Thank you, Nick. Your mindset is amazing, and the way you view life is absolutely beautiful

    I really wanna say thank you, I’m an 11B about to ETS and return home and I tell you it’s been a big fear of mine but If anything you’ve shown me as the infantry has many times again I can do whatever I put my heart into and have to just have faith in myself and the mission ahead.
    Thank you so much brother

    Nick this was the most inspirational and relatable video I’ve watched from you so far.
    It was a year ago when I stumbled upon your video of “life of a infantry pl”. And from then I’ve stuck with you and watched your business grow and the things that you’ve done, and it has change my passion from joining the military, to become an entrepreneur.
    And when you said that when your in the military, you’re entitled to many benefits but when you leave you’re not entitled to shit, and that really got to me.
    Thank you nick, for changing my life

  • @ericnelsjohnson5491
    @ericnelsjohnson5491 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Nick, I just wanted to let you know that I had begun watching you right before you got out of Active Duty.
    I decided to join Army ROTC this past August (the start of my sophomore year) after being on the fence about it due to the fact that I’m the last of my family (no brothers/sisters/cousins).
    I just wanted to let you know that your guidance through these videos (and fantastic products) developed my attitude and mindset; I too desire to start a business throughout and after my career.
    I was recently awarded a 2.5 year ROTC scholarship, of which I’m honored. Taking months with no actual promise to achieve it, I used what you spoke of in this video, i.e. patience, focus, time, and determination, I was able to prove to the Cadre and myself that I was deserved of this scholarship.
    I guess what I want to say is, thank you. I hope to one day vocalize that thanks to you, as you helped guide me and remind me to be patient for, with this scholarship, I feel like I have truly fulfilled my heart.
    For a guy who hasn’t settled for less and doesn’t like to waste time, you’ve made sure I can differentiate between wasting time and being patient for the long run.
    Thank you, LT Bare.

    I needed this video. I’m an 11B and anyone who’s been there or is there knows what it’s like, especially if you’ve left family behind. I turned 24 a week ago and im stationed overseas in Europe atm. Im filled with worry, sadness, and anger at myself for deciding to do this for four years and leave my wonderful family back home. I think about them every single day. I know that I will never take anything for granted again if I can get through these next 3 and half years. I really want to go back home to my family and my friends. Im worried about to conflict going on Ukraine but it’s what I signed up for. Im sitting in my bunk every night when we’re not out in the field constantly thinking about home. Wish me luck.

    Amazing video! Amazing words. All of your other videos are little parts.... little parts that make a whole. The whole is this video, the message in this video, the feeling, the inspiration, the genuine approach, the heart felt honesty. The kind of video that, on its own, in a small and indirect way, epitomizes you, faith, and life itself. I remind myself every day “ to live like I deserve none of the things in my life”

  • @tewksburydriver8624
    @tewksburydriver8624 6 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    Nick you are absolutely spot on with your assessment of your generation in particular. I'm in my 40's gen X and my generation like every other has it's problems, but the Millennial generation really is taking longer to grow up and take ownership of their lives. I spent 6 years in the Army in the 90's, and I've been a full time firefighter for the past 19 years. The generation of firefighters coming on the job now walk in the door like they own the place, demanding respect instead of earning it. When I got on the dept. my generation had the utmost respect for the senior guys. The young guys now, are the last ones to show up in the morning, use sick time whenever they don't want to go to work, and if you ask them to grab a mop they look at you like you have two heads. I'm not saying they are incompetent or lazy, but they act entitled just as you described.

    • @tewksburydriver8624
      @tewksburydriver8624 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree completely. Doesn't change the facts and overall attitude of many 20 somethings right now. Even the instructors at the fire academy are reporting back to the fire Chiefs about it. I didn't sit on a couch in the firehouse for my first 3 years and now we have firefighters with 3 months on the job complaining about how many runs they go on in a 24 hour shift. Believe me, I wish it were different. It's not all of them but too many not to notice. The department hired a guy, 24 year old Army Vet, and conditions of employment are successfully passing the fire academy and obtaining an EMT card within 12 months of hire. This guy failed the EMT test and did not retake it for 6 months because he knew he had a year and he felt like riding the fire truck instead of the ambulance, taking the engine spot from a senior firefighter. He ended up failing the test again, and when he hit the 12 month mark the Chief gave him an extension as a courtesy and he was arrogantly heard saying "I'm a veteran they can't fire me". Well he failed it again and he was gone. Year invested in someone with an entitled attitude. Taxpayer $$ spent to train him at the state academy, all for nothing. I have hundreds of examples like this of things that never happened even ten years ago.

    • @ericb5666
      @ericb5666 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow, you ran across one douche bag. The actions of one person is enough justification to make statements about an entire generation?

    • @tewksburydriver8624
      @tewksburydriver8624 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are not comprehending what I'm writing. If you look back you will see that I said it's not all of them, but too many not to notice a trend. I'm not alone in this critique. Don't worry the previous generation cringed at some of my generations antics, and so on and so on. It's nothing personal, young guys coming on are strong dedicated, and the future of the service, but they don't want to earn their stripes. You are not in my shoes or a firefighter so you are not experiencing it first hand. You are probably in your 20's and taking offense for no reason. If you are a kick ass selfless person that works hard, my comments don't apply to you

    • @tewksburydriver8624
      @tewksburydriver8624 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      self absorbed? Wow, you guys are making my point by minimizing my experience when I repeatedly explained it and gave examples. All a person has to go on his his/her own experiences, sorry if that bothers you. Your response is exactly what the problem is.

    Nick I'm 14 and over the last few months I've figured this out myself "patience".
    I had and still have a bunch of huge huge goals, the only diverence now is I learned it's going to take time, to achieve those goals. Put you're head down and fucking work. It might take years but you will get there.
    One of my biggest goals for this year is too swim 59 seconds on 100m butterfly, and create a business that has a little success that I can scale. I have a plan for that too.
    I'm a competitive swimmer, but also enjoy working out. I spend around 17-18 hours a week training. 3 hours a day.
    One day I want to compete at the Olympics and break a world record.
    I want to own a massive business and crush it every day.
    I'm currently reading crushing it. And its real good info.
    Patience is key
    If you want to win put you're head down and fucking work.
    Ok gotta go hit legs cya

    I'm finally making a change, working out is hard because i haven't done it in so long. I'm 24. You're videos have inspired me lately. I hope i can make a career out of the military & have a business on the side. I'll be starting from the bottom as a private or fuzzy, I only wish to grow & succeed. Most of my civilian friends found their way & selfishly dropped friends such as myself. I really want to find dedicated trustworthy people to befriend & look up to in the Army. I want to be appreciated. My only issue now is to choose a job.

    Patience is an implied learning requirement built into college, the Army, and the work world to some extent. Earning a 4 year degree, depending on how much you challenge yourself and on what you put into it, may indeed warrant that instant job offer.
    Being a Guardsman or Reservist forces you to juggle both worlds and can help you appreciate the work it takes in building your life outside of a regimented structure. In a way you build your own life, which can be just as if not more rewarding than serving Active Duty.
    Both words, civilian and Army, teach great lessons. Enjoyed the vid, keep it up

    • @soldierside365
      @soldierside365 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MossInBlood two tours would fuck you up real good. He’s seen the true, ugly side of being an infantry soldier. War. Killing. Death. Mutilation. Friends, brothers, comrades, and civilians die in front of his eyes. You learn pretty quick just how little anyone actually cares about you. You get a number, because you are a number. Nothing more. Expendable. A statistic.
      In Britain, we have a less of a culture that praises service compared to the states, so take that in to account when reading. Not to say we don’t appreciate, but we don’t gush over a man or woman in uniform.
      I also did some time in the army, and left fairly early on. People can say i ‘couldn’t hack it’ or whatever, truth is, I learnt fairly quickly this was not the environment for me. Not to blow my own trumpet, but I’m a little too intelligent and inquisitive for my own good to be subservient where the environment demands conformity. Be your own person, not a sheep.

    I'm still active, but working in a joint environment. All services, plus teaching alongside civilian contractors. When you speak about the personal wants/needs being our laser focus, you are spot-on. It is difficult to blend our philosophy of finishing tasks and those who view their work in a very different way. I'm not trying to generate a negative energy, but my family and anyone outside the military...it's excuse nation and so much talk with little action. My husband is a vet, as well, and has struggled to find his place outside the brotherhood. I know you had patience and grew your business while still in, but have you struggled as well with the mental shift? I love your comments about the long gain. The patience. Thanks for always giving quality content.

    That entitlement issue stems from the over-commercializing of the American Dream of being able to go college, find a valuable job after graduation, and being successful (a la "the greatest generation"). This false advertising has created your cult of victim mentality. The virtues of patience and the ideals of capitalism do not mix with the reality of living paycheck to paycheck.
