    Hi There, I used to train 12yrs ago in L.A at Dojo USA under Late Sensei Robert Bryner, and I used to study Okinawan Ryu-Te and every now again Students from Inosanto Academy would come to teach us Kali.
    I can tell you that I did find a lot of similarities within the 2 arts especially on the empty hands drills. As I live now in AUS and Ryu Te does not exist I'll continue with Panantukan.
    Great explanation. Chiao my friend

    I love gunting. I've used it consistently over the years and it's one of the most underrated yet effective techniques in my arsenal. My dad had me doing just this for a year before we moved on. It literally works on anyone.

      Will it work on the arm?

    • @LeviathanLee
      @LeviathanLee 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maxstrengthholistics
      Absolutely. Works in sparring and combat. Think of it as punching the arm to punch the face and its easier to apply and comprehend. Be careful of the angles in sparring though.
      Folks pretend otherwise but they all extend the arm and it can be dislocated or worse.

    It's the ulnar nerve. Radial runs to the thumb.

    What does it feel like getting hit in the bicep like that? Does it cause any sort of permanent damage or just pain?

    • @glock-hm3ro
      @glock-hm3ro 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      LunaticReason it hurts like hell and can cause temp limb paralysis if brachial nerve is hit right (I know from practice and I have “Dr.” In front of my name and practice sports medicine/therapy

    Question, people high on drugs, alcohol, or both, do not register pain like a normal person. Will limb destruction be effective against them? What I mean is will these techniques slow down their attacks since their nerves are being attacked?

    • @bamboo7714
      @bamboo7714 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      While pain perception may be different on inebriated persons, shock/damage on the nerves may render the same fate. Shock on nerves may render weakness on the muscles to where the nerve connects to. Damage or severance of nerves may even cause paralysis/flaccidity of the muscle and or limb itself. Again, pain does not have to be a factor for these to happen.
      On the other hand, I see a big issue for a supposed person with a sound mind physically confronting an intoxicated one, especially one so intoxicated that they can not control their own thoughts. Of whom, rare if ever, an intoxicated person unable to control their own thoughts be able to control their own balance and action. If physical conflict does occur with these people, a simple waft in the wind would knock them easily due to inebriation.

    Remember, with a boxer, by the time you block (esp. employing both hands, say, to "destroy the bicep" with a strike) the second blow is on its way to your head or body. Of course, using a knife, or two, is a different matter.

  • @pacoval4577

    good explanation. imo, this drill does not work if we're just slapping the lower arm (as you see in a lot of videos), it makes sense to get in there deep either for destruction or positioning.

    Nice video. I personally prefer shorter gunting with the inside part of the wrist (psiform bone) to the interior part of the elbow where the ulnar colateral ligaments and nerve are. (funny bone as you say). Hitting the biceps or triceps with the knuckles it is not very effective under my experience and you need to commit to go in a little too deep. When you hit the interior ligaments of the elbow you can keep your stance and distance without moving in. This is useful for "warning" hits.

    IF CAN DEFANG WHY NOT ATTACK THE FACE, WHY WASTE TIME ON THE LIMB. WHEN YOU SLIP THE REASON YOU SLIP IS SO YOU CAN STAY IN RANGE OF HITTING THE FACE WHY YOU AVOID OPPONENTS ATTACK. RIGHT?

    EMPTY HANDS STRATEDGY IS DIFFERNT THEN HAVING WEAPONS STRATEDGY. E.G. IF I HAVE A GUN IN HAND, I WILL FIGHT VERY DIFFERENT THEN IF I HAVE NO WEAPON. IF I HAVE A SWORD VERY DIFFERENT.

    WHY DO ALL THAT. IF I HAVE TWO KNIFES AGAINST AN UNHARMED, WHY WOULD I TAKE ANY RISK BY TRYING TO DO A SLIP. I WOULD BE ATTACKING WITH TWO KNIFES. HE WOULD BE RUNNING. IF I WAS UNHARMED, WHY WOULD I PUT TWO HANDS ON ONE HAND TYING BOTH THIS IS NOT EFFICIENT. I WOULD NOT BOTHER DEFANGING IF HE HAD NO WEAPONS. THE ONLY TIME THIS MAKES SENSE IS IF HE HAS WEAPONS ATTACKING ME. MOST OF THIS STUFF IS MAKES SENSE ONLY IF THE OPPONENT HAS WEAPONS. THIS BACK AND FORTH WITH EMPTY HANDS AND WITH WEAPONS IS NONSENSE.

    PANANTUKAN is not a FIlipino Martial Art. this art is only invented by western guys for their marketing. IT does not exist in our country.
    PANANTUKAN, PANANJAKMAN, KINA MUTAI, HUBUDKUBUD all of this terms are wrong and does not exist in our filipino vocabulary
    and also the term KALI is only invented by DAN INOSANTO

    • @tinnimac
      @tinnimac 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are exactly right on the butt Pareng Ben. All those terms are recent inventions by enterprising FilAms. They do this out of a longing for something indigenous to the Filipino Martial Arts and a sense of identity.

      McSpaghetti and Chicken McDo do not exist here in our country. I have been to the original McDonald's site in Southern California and from West Coast to East Coast I have never seen them. But they exist. And they are good. I have eaten them many times.
      What some don't know is that McSpaghetti did exist and was offered in the US in the late 80's. It did not stay, but it was offered in the Philippines by enterprising Filipinos and many people like it. Is it authentic? Is it official? Not to all, but definitely to some. And to some, it is delicious.

      Kinamutay is from Visayas, you dumb shit, and it's always been called that way.
      And how could you say Kali was a word invented by Dan Inosanto when Western Visayans have always referred to their martial arts with names like Kalirongan, Kaliradman, Pagkalikali and of course, the name Kali itself?
