Turns out it was a normal DE with a replacement revup engine and the guy who did the swap did not attach the crank or fuel sensors -_- could have been worse, but now I have a revup with only 2000 miles on it
Glad you were able to clear the CEL. Same thing happened to me when I brought my Acura RSX, didn't have a scanner and CEL came on the next day. First car I ever bought used and will always bring a scanner when I buy my 350z/370z next time.

😬 I had the check engine light come on no,t long after I bought my HR. It doesn't necessarily mean that there's an engine problem, sometimes it lies and so do code readers. The one at the shop I go to said it was the catalytic converter. Before committing to that I tried removing the gas cap and purring it back on right, a common cause of the dreaded light. Didn't help but I'd noticed that the cap looked kind of heavily used so I put on a new locking cap that I'd just bought from Amazon. After driving a mile or so the light went off by itself. Like the British say, keep calm and carry on! Also, those little Febreze things that clip onto a vent can make the car less bathroom until you do a deep cleaning. 🌞
Good thinking checking the gas cap, I’ve heard of that possibly being an issue! Luckily the CEL seems to be fixed for now with just the simple idle relearn (: really appreciate your comment Ellen! Got my air freshener a few days ago and it’s definitely helped a good bit!🙏🏼☺️
Had to do the idle relearn after I cleaned my throttle bodies. Had to do it a few times until it worked, thought I'd totally buggered it! It's likely it has been caused by those aftermarket TBs you've got, glad you got it sorted.

I hate that feeling, i bought a genesis a couple months ago from someome and boom check engine as well. It needed timing chains so i sold it and lost money.

I highly recommend you do these things before you go rip it around. Engine flush get can of amsoil or liqui moly. Change your oil shell rotella T6 5W40 highly recommended. Spark plugs. Transmission oil Diff oil

Next I found the passenger window can not roll back and other things. Although that, I love the car and I do not regret. You can repair pretty much everything. It is just about the time and money. Mine Z has a beatiful custom sound of Sebring exhaust, wing and preffered gray colour. I had to buy it. I am from Europe, where prices are about 14k USD in conversion. I wish you many happy miles with this beast what converts gasoline to sound, acceleration and happines. :-) Mira from Czechia

Buy a scanner there cheap especially online and you check the check engine light on accessory mode not the car on. Since it runs and drives erase the code and if it comes back it comes back. It’s an old car gotta get to wrenching. Also, clean the fuel sending unit lever with a q tip did it to my g35 coupe worked
My check engine light on my HR quite regularly is on for like 2 weeks then off for like 2 weeks for the last like year and a half. The first time it came on I was about to go get it checked out and it went off so🤷♂️
any particular reason why you got a second z? is it just cause you like those cars or do you have a special project in mind? cause people normally tend to get a different car , i got my Z a few months ago , now im saving for my NA miata
I have an '02 Z - It's a good fun car, not as powerful as the VQ35DE rev up or VQ35HR (the one in this video) but it is still a 350Z. Comes down to your budget and how much you're willing to pay. My '02 is a genuine Japanese Import, so it is registered as a Fairlady Z not a 350Z, which I love. I live in NZ, so it might be different for you, but they were sold from August 2002 as an '03 model in the US so there's a good chance it was a Jap Import.
Unless, of course, yours is LHD - in which case it'll be an '03. No real difference between an '02 or an '03 (just the '02 models were only sold as '02 models in Japan) so it doesn't matter - but that's the basic gist of the early model Z33

If you’re willing to wait for an HR you could do that too, but depending on where you’re from and the number of Z’s around for sale, this one might be worth it! Appreciate your comment!🙏🏼
Yeah you got rip off. I bet the dealer use the ob2 reader to turn off the check engine light. Also as a dealer he supposed to sell a reliable car. You could actually sue him.

I had a very similar experience of stressful surprises when I bought my 07 Z, it’s only good times from here!
