Also something I learned is that if the bus is open you DO NOT need the skull key to reach skull caverns. You can access them during the spring three day calico event. This means that bc you never reached floor 120 all enemies will have HALF the hp compared to if you had the skull key. It also means that your starter clubs weapons will be fine to defeat baddies. I still agree that steel pickaxe is best :)
I managed to open the bus by the second day of desert fest by fishing and I had the Riverland farm so that started with a smoker. Another thing that helped me tone was getting the broken trident for that
Truth, I was able to get to the skull mines during the festival and didn’t see anything totally worth the few calico eggs I was able to get. And so I just used the ones I had to get a magic rock candy ¨̮
@@Bonfree24 if Demetrius is ever at one of the shops you can get deluxe speed grow and the guy above the traveling cart has strawberry seeds which are super profitable
@@Goteryup true, but for me Demetrius wasn’t one of the shop keepers. And also, due to when I’d purchase the strawberry seeds, they wouldn’t get more than 1 harvest in year one. So, I felt it was going to be fine leaving it at that, and just making for a more fun skull cavern dive later on.
This is fantastic! For a future video, maybe consider making (even a short) video on skull cavern or combat in multi-player. I love playing with friends, but we get absolutely destroyed by lag and the inability to pause when eating. Thanks again for this extensive video!

48:30 One other thing to consider specific to the Desert Festival! You can eat from the mysterious chef for long lasting special buffs that stack with normal food and drink buffs. The buffs always last 7 minutes, but your choices effect what buffs you get. A really good option is Rare Fruit with Uncomfortably Hot Sauce for +3 luck and +1 speed, but other options can give defense, attack, and mining levels. The only one you don't want is the shrimp, which give the dish a +3 fishing buff.
Though, as I understand it you can eat an unlimited amount of dishes at the festival, so if you need a fishing buff to do the fishing challenge and then a skull cavern-oriented buff, you can do that :)
Bonus Tip: On the Springtime Desert Festival days, you can get food buffs that don't interfere with your normal food and drink buffs, check the wiki for combos that you want, but basically you can get another luck bonus on top of what you already had at the end there.
Throwing in a tip or two for beginners: I make a lot of cheese anyway, so I keep all my gold star cheese for food. With a barn of cows it stacks up quickly and it is a really good food source.
This was one of the best videos I’ve watched on the caverns and maybe stardew valley in general. The amount of detail vs ‘get bombs’ etc is really awesome. Subscribed!
It's also good to take out the crabs when it's your first cavern runs because you can usually get a piece of iridium ore from them. Yes, it's disappointing that it's not an actual ore node, but at least they drop some iridium compared to the slimes that rarely drop iridium ore. If you go to skull caverns on the desert festival, make sure to get your free meal before going in as it does not count as a regular meal so you can stack the buffs you get from the chef with a magic rock candy. Select rare fruit as the base and then Uncomfortably Hot sauce. This meal will give you +3 luck and +1 move speed.
Thats by far the best guide i've ever seen. Thank you very much for ur detailed guide, it shows everything from the start, now I can try my luck again at skull cavern :D

I personally don’t bother with the caverns until I have set up crystalariums with jade and I can consistently get down to floor 100. Just farm the regular mines for all the ores you need and kill slimes so you will get the charmer ring and never have to worry about those. It gets a lot easier once you unlock ginger island and you can farm coffee and pineapple en mass as well as being able to get ginger for ale that you can buff with qi spice. For combat I used an artful galaxy hammer with acrobat so I can just spam the special and use the click glitch to kill everything. I also threw three knockback buffs on it so I can pick and choose what I want to fight by just flinging mobs off the screen.
I would also recommend saving all your regular quartz bc you can get bombs with 5 of them. Even using 1 crystalarium will give you multiple of them per day.
I’ve never made life elixir for anything but completing the crafting completion requirement in three perfection saves. I just bring cheese or a good stack of either salmon berries or blackberries if I don’t have enough cheese yet.
Great video brother! Something I learned was there was a book available after 1000 monster kills. Just when I think I know everything, there is always something new I was unaware of.

Seems like bombs are the bottleneck for how deep you can go realistically, so the first few runs need as many bombs as possible to make the effort worth it.
On multiplayer I'm finding skull cavern ten times harder, because time never will pause, and monsters move differently. Knockback doesn't seem to work the same, and it's difficult to keep serpents from hovering on top of you, damaging you while you fight them. I'm normally comfortable hitting floor 130 in a day in skull cavern, but in multiplayer now I'm rarely hitting floor 40 anymore. I'm thinking that spamming staircases might be the only way to get down to iridium levels in multiplayer, early in the skull cavern days. Maybe after I get to Ginger Island and have more luck buffs I could get farther.
could largely be a lag issue. been playing with a friend and as the host I have no issues with mobs. Can't say much about how my friend does, especially since he's got crap internet. With my extremely barebones setup I could still hit level 40 or so quite easily. Once I have Ginger Island that'll probably jump to a hundred without too much stair spam.

Got lucky with prismatic shard while cracking geodes from regular mine, got the galaxy sword and still strugling reaching floor 30 in skull cavern. Those serpent is nightmare
My preference is quartz trading for bombs, a couple of duplicators of quartz, with a few for ruby and jade keeps me rolling in bombs, but early game that's only feasible if you had quite a few saved from the regular mines 👍🏾
Making golden star cheese is much easier and give you energy too instead of making life elixir. But showing full Skull Cavern run with bare minimum requirement and all upgrade you can get in year 1 are very uplifting and motivating.
