@@Buckets50 That is the company's fault for giving a "boss" 70 days of paid off-time. I never heard of a company doing roll-over time like XM did. Opie was also pissed that Steve wouldn't work a second job for free (maintain their website)

@@lithium23 yea we all know opie is ridiculous. All I’m saying is Steve is basically pawning off all of his Monday work on his subordinates and is then befuddled by everyone being pissed at him.
It’s an oversight on XMs part sure but it’s more of a dick move by Steve to do it. His solution is that everyone should take a day a week off and create even more of a work flow log jam.

Listening to this is depressing knowing Steve eventually committed suicide. I think Steve was thrust into the producers position (after Ben Sparks was fired) which wasn't really his skill set. He was good at making audio that the show used (Ramone, "that's terrible, I'm sorry") and talking on air. He was not good at managing and directing people. On top of that stress he knew half the staff didn't like him, and that Anthony's best friend Danny absolutely despised him and always threw passive aggressive jabs - like rolling his eyes like a 14 year old girl every time Steve spoke. He tried taking as many Monday's off as possible because he hated his job.

Chris Palmer well thought out assessment; Steve was legit at end of his rope there, he was basically a boss yet felt like he was going into a gd war zone every morning all thanks to that proverbial cancer Daniel Ross just poisoning that back office. He got rid of Master Poe and then Steve and was probably working on Mars before finally getting the boot (it took him basically telling Scott friggin Greenstein to F off). And with Steve gone and no ones demise to plot look what type of shit that dude was doing: (as per the yt vid entitled Blind Stevie vs Danny) I mean the guy had some significant issues.

@@noneyag123 Steve's demeanor made it pretty abundantly clear that he struggled with huge insecurities and a negative self image, had untreated symptoms of major depression etc. and the reason he was there was because he probably had more passion and was more willing to work above and beyond for the actual show than anyone else on the staff.
He started working for them as just a fan when he basically took it upon himself to try to handle their PR and website - something that the company constantly failed to fulfill their end of the bargain for. He made it clear that he was fine with mostly working alone if it meant that he wouldn't have to be exposed to the ball-busting that the drunken interns were fine with.
Having mental issues which made him more sensitive to a hostile work environment does not make him a baby - I used to think he was a pansy when I heard his reactions to the jabs that people would give him, but then it became clear that he was never looking to enter that atmosphere or hog the mic etc. and did his thing with his audio productions, arranging guests, maintaining their outward online presence and publicity etc. etc. - Anyone with some social skill would start to notice that pretty quickly, and this makes for mostly very sad altercations to listen to as a result.
You just can't look at a guy who's clearly incredibly sad, stressed and feels downright hated by everyone around him at work - which again I can't blame him for because the real top piece of st!t is Danny, a stirring, proudly alcoholic little worm who delights in sarcastically kicking easy targets and people like Steve down to a dehumanizing level, when they're already down, because that's how he deals with his own insecurity (or, you know, by throwing a tantrum when he loses a versus game of Guitar Hero).
      - Steve's mental health (which he obviously doesn't know how to express the issues of, as he just kept trying to push through it in America's terrible health care system, and which was clearly not successfully if at all treated and acknowledged even behind the scenes - something that he clearly needed help with because he was stuck in a self-loathing cycle) was such a clear reason for him to take the vacation days he built up through all his work, and perhaps, he felt somewhat optimistic about the mental rest that it would give him, so that he might ease some of his stress and anxiety for awhile... and even *then* the exploitative, greedy culture there conspired to make him feel as miserable and guilty as possible for trying to do something that he would've felt was healthy for himself and which he had a RIGHT to.
One can only feel sorry for the fact that Steve provided so much work and picked up so much of the company's slack while mentally seemingly going through a constant breakdown in all areas of his life, because he had loyalty - and that he happened to not have the tools to deal with childishly heartless bullying (it becomes bullying when he clearly isn't part of the fun and just becomes a target which isn't part of his job or ambitions) to the point that he was finally unceremoniously laid off after his entire job title was scrapped so he could be thrown in the dirt for all the years he gave to the show - and that even though he had so much trouble with the social work environment, it was him losing that driving force, to work for the show, which made him kill himself soon after he was made to pack up and leave. That's how important the show, and working on it, was to him.

He had mental issues and depression and all of the staff was against him behind the scenes, Sam, Erock, Danny, Travis and so on were all against him and they even admitted that they tried to sabotage his work sometimes by giving him false information and messing with him.
The hosts (Opie, Jim and Ant) were also constantly teasing him and nitpicking everything he did and he constantly had to defend everything he did which probably was a big strain on his psyche.
(Opie was the only one of the hosts that took it very seriously though, Ant and Jim was mostly joking around)

When they take every Friday off, when they did that, there would be a rotation of Friday staff so everybody would get some Fridays off with them. Opie clearly had nothing but contempt for the guy, and that contempt allowed the other staff to have contempt for him with impunity. Opie and the staff would mercilessly ridicule Steve C and condemn his for his fuck ups, calling him useless and incompetent over and over. This got into Steve's head and made him terrified of going into work, terrified of fucking up, which ironically caused him to lose focus and fuck things up, and the cycle just went round and round. As much as they all ragged on him they really were just as much to blame for Steve C's incompetence as he was.
It didn't help that he was despised by Danny, who for some reason was popular with other staff and had a lot of clout with the show. They talk about unprofessionalism but it really was unprofessional for them to just allow Danny to treat Steve C the way he did behind the scenes. No professional employer would tolerate that kind of working relationship without at least sitting down with the two of them and trying to work something out. But it led to good radio so the Opster didn't care.

“Steve’s lost me too…” that’s the line I’m guessing that had Mrs Steve C in tears - Opie and probably Eric/Jimmy and Sam to lesser extent were Steve’s only remaining allies there. The personification of slow ever-progressing leukemia that went by the pseudonym Daniel Ross had ensured by then that Steve’s work days were tantamount to war…and that poor lovable bear was all but ready to shut it all down and waive the white flag. This move here of just saying fuck it and utilizing all of his sick days by taking off every subsequent Monday was the move to get to that precipice. The whole thing where he stopped running their website and wanted to claim ownership to the show’s video catalog (may even have forced them to pay him for ownership) was Steve saluting, exclaiming “Your Mom’s Box”, and making the leap. Eh maybe I shouldn’t have used that analogy all shit considered, my fault

Steve’s problem was he was scared of them for no reason. It’s very simple.
“Sorry Opie, I have the days so I’m going to use them. I’m sure all of you guys who are also working men, can understand the desire to wanting to take Mondays off and if the company awarded me 51 paid sick days, I would be a fool to not use them.”
Also I regards to not answering my phone, I would just tell the truth. I had off and I’m not a doctor, fireman, or police officer. I’m not on call, so I didn’t answer my phone. Kick rocks.”

Regardless of what the company should have done, if Steve had just admitted his email was misleading he could have avoided this whole situation. Instead he brings up points to subjects that weren't really relevant to try to save his ego. They were calling him to try and clarify and he didn't answer, I hate when people get caught lying and try to get out of it.

    • @jaymanzor
      @jaymanzor 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

The only mistake Steve made was backpedaling. He should have said right to Opie’s face that he was going to be out every Monday until he used up all his days. Sorry but if the company gave it to him, Opie’s issue is with the company. Steve did them a solid by telling them to let him know if it was a problem. The reality is he didn’t have to. Opie crying about wishing he could take off every Monday is a joke too. Opie signed a contract and his contract has its own rules. They have nothing to do with Steve.
