AJ, you have one of the best jobs in the world! You must feel like a kid in a sweet shop most days. What i have deduced from your presentation is that the Ateca FR is excellent for those who want a fast, aggressive looking machine with the feeling of safety and comfort. However, the Leon Cupra is far better for those who want the raw experience. I think the future Ateca Cupra is designed to bridge that gap so i'll be looking forward to that presentation to see if that's the case.
Great video, but 4 wheel drive cars tend to understeer not oversteer (unless it sends more power to the back wheels but that's not really the case with VW in practice, just in paper) You get liftoff oversteer though.
After watching the world premier with Brian of the Ateca Cupra I think the fr trim level will give you about 90% of the fun without the high price of the cupra.Well done Aj a really good review .
Hi! Good video! Actually there is a Tiguan GTI, the one that sits in the MQB platform, has lowered suspension, quattro and uses the 220hp engine from the "standard" Golf GTI. Nevertheless VW doesn't sell it like a "Tiguan GTI". Same case with the Q3. There is one petrol version with 220hp, quattro and optional 20mm lowered suspension (!). And if you choose not to spec it with the panoramic roof you have a very decent centre of gravity for that kind of car. You guys should know these cars DO exist... I will strongly recommend a video comparing these models Cheers

I was thinking the same, but obviously in highway driving it does. It seems like more displacement and more power lets the engine rev lower and therefore consume less. With the 1.4 TSI we had 8 l / 100 km.
Good review but I want to mention that I can easily kick the tail of my 4 drive ateca if I want. The trick is to switch the esc mode to sport in the car menu. Switching the dial to sport isn't enough 😉

Appalling and could be dangerous in certain situations (say on a roundabout or pulling out of a junction). This is a serious problem I've noticed all VW group cars have (either that or turbo lag which is really extreme when you put a turbo in such a small engine). I would have to test drive an Ateca myself before buying one as this is a deal breaker for me now. I have a skoda suv and this issue drives me mad.

Okay, it's a lack of understanding from me beause at 11:30 AJ says that the car have a TDI engine but after on the highway I did not notice that the car is driving was blue. So yes it's not the same ^^ but he doesn't specify that he driving the 190 TSI.

Well done, AJ! You were having way too much fun on the track with that Cupra! :-) It's a pity we didn't get some video from the 2.0 TSI, but at least you could drive it and told us about it. Sounds like a good choice to me. I have always liked the look of the Ateca, but missed a petrol engine with a bit more power. And because I heard quite a few reports about the Ateca's suspension being quite firm, I thought it could do with adaptive suspension. With that being here now too, it sounds like a very interesting car. There's no pricing on it yet in the Netherlands, though.. I'm curiou, how the adaptive suspension in 'normal' mode compares to the standard (non-adaptive) suspension? I thought the adaptive suspension in the MQB platform always had three modes: comfort, normal and sport. So this seems to be different?
Hi Gerard, thanks a lot :) and actually, i do drive the 2.0l tsi on camera at 23:15.. unfortunately, i didnt have much time with that car so we couldn't get drive-by footage or other exterior shots.. i had more time with the 2.0l tdi, so we filmed all the other segments with that, as well as the driving at 49:16.. :) sometimes, due to the prevailing circumstances and time limits, we have to film in a different order than what would be in the final film. So, sometimes we miss out the connections and flow. As far as i saw, there are only 2 modes for the Seat DCC- normal and sport. there is certainly a noticeable difference between them and its standard on the FR trim. But you are right, the ateca without DCC has a slightly stiffer suspension.

The fact that both the diesel and the petrol have 190 hp doesn't help to stop the confusion! :-) Good to hear about the suspension. Sounds like they did just the right thing here. Indeed surprising that they now introduce DCC for the Ateca whereas before, it seemed like they wanted to have that reserved for the Tiguan. Probably a reaction to the FR which will always come with those big rims, that it wont be less comfortable with the big rims. What I couldnt find out yet if you can get DCC on ANY Ateca now or just for the FR. /Thomas
+Umur Gümüşbaş if the car is FWD or most of the time FWD until the rear gets active, a huge rear spoiler might not be the best solution as it pulls the rear down and the front axle loses traction instead.

Are you sure the 2L TSI 190 hp is doing 6.4l/100km on the highway? Normally the Volkswagen groups petrol engines are not fuel Economy type.
