    I about 1920 Ty Cobb came to Georgia and played in several exhibition games. For money if course. One of my grandfather's achievements in life was that he struck out Ty Cobb - twice. He had to finish raising his four sisters so he never tried out for professional baseball.
    But after he finished raising those girls (both his parents had died) he went to college, got his Ph.D, and became a Methodist minister.
    That's my baseball story.

Yes, there have been some campaigns where frontline troops were not well supported, but zero support is never an option. Without command and control, logistics, intelligence, transport, administration, materiel, medical staff, and operational support, any unit over the size of a fire team would be utterly ineffective.

    I don’t know the rules that applied when Eisenhower was in college, but today NCAA rules make it clear amateur status is sport specific. Eisenhower did not play intercollegiate baseball, so his participation in football would not have violated that rule. A number of pro baseball players have had no problems later being on a college football team. A recent example is Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray who signed for $5 million in the Oakland A’s organization but after that played on the Sooners football team.

    I'm thinking there is a major mistake in this video which I'm hoping someone can help me with in confirming starting at 2:11 ..... I think Simon has confused Junction City Kansas with Junction City Wisconsin when mentioning the intersecting railroads..... I know that Wisconsin Valley (also known later as Milwaukee Road) ran through Junction City Wisconsin along with the Soo Line. Looking further online it looks like the three railroads through Junction City Kansas were Kansas Pacific--the Union Pacific, Missouri, Kansas, and Texas railroad plus the Junction City and Fort Kearney railroad. I only say this is because Junction City Wisconsin is the next village over from where I live. Can anyone else confirm?

    • @HSMiyamoto
      @HSMiyamoto 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      As noted by others below, TIFO confused Junction City, Wisconsin -- which really is place where two important railroads connect -- to Junction City, Kansas, which is named after the confluence of two rivers. Still, that should have been caught before recording, since Kansas and Wisconsin are different states, and it is unlikely that two railroads in Kansas would both bear the name of "Wisconsin." Rather like the likelihood that the Great Western Railway would have had tracks in East Anglia.

      The leader of Cuba from 1959 to 2008? This is not true; Castro never received so much as a tryout from an American major league team. There is supposedly a mention of him in a report by a major league scout who was touring Cuba when Castro was on his college team, but the scout's opinion was not favorable.

    It's one thing to mispronounce words in languages you don't speak. Not looking up IPA for the correct phonetic pronunciation of English words and names is another matter entirely. Keep the lols coming Simon. Never change.

    Not having a go at you Simon but Knute Rockne is pronounced NEWT ROCK-KNEE. Hard one, that. It's like knife. I always hated silent letters (if it's silent, why the hell is it there?!?).
