    I watched this entire game live with my grandparents when I was 14 or so. They were huge tennis fans and it was a school day, it was late in our timezone, and they were particularly strict about me going to bed early. But this happened and they allowed me to hang around and see the game thru until the end. And boy did we have a blast. We didn't even know who to root for at this point because the game was getting crazy. I will always remember the bond we had that night because of this game. I miss them both very much.

      Stuff like this is where hawkeye is actually a harm to the game. I've witnessed on plenty occasions where the line judge made a bad call and after the yelling, the player that the call was against actually plays better, they get fired up about it. Even been some where the player knew it was out but yelled at the chair anyway just to give themselves something to get amped up with.
      Of course there are some where they freak out too much and play like garbage the rest of the way. So it's definitely a fine line haha

    Soon these type of matches won’t exist if AO bring in 10 point tie break at 6-6 in the fifth. Probably right because these type of match mess up the schedule and the winner has next to no chance to go on and win their next match. And gives certainty to spectators and broadcasters of when the match will end.

    • @pomerlain8924
      @pomerlain8924 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      These types of matches were rare when they did happen. The only players that are routinely playing long advantage sets past 10-all are Isner and Karlovic because they can't break serve. But the rare occasions matches did go beyond 10-all, like this match, or Djokovic-Wawrinka match, the matches were memorable.
      And keep in mind Simona Halep won 15-13 in the third against Lauren Davis, and then came back and routined two big-hitters with identical 6-3 6-2 score lines. Nobody was complaining about putting in a tiebreaker then.
      All of this is a knee-jerk reaction to John Isner getting to the SF of Wimbledon and playing the longest SF ever because his serve is so hard to break and he sucks on return. Had he not saved match points against Bemelmans in the 2nd round, this isn't even a conversation. Outside of Isner and Karlovic, there haven't been many matches that went beyond 10-all. And most of the ones that did still finished shy of 5 hours.

    • @sasook
      @sasook 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pomerlain89 Plenty of people thought it was retarded that Halep had to go through that. This has been a debate long before Isner ever came around. God forbid they put the players’ health above entertainment value for once.
