  • Here's how to visit Alaska's gorgeous national parks and experience the amazing wildlife and remote wilderness of each.
Alaska's most-visited national parks are the ones most accessible from the road system or on a cruise. These include Denali National Park, Kenai Fjords National Park, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, and Glacier Bay National Park. The remaining parks are only accessible by air, and include Lake Clark National Park, Katmai National Park, Gates of the Arctic National Park, and Kobuk Valley National Park. Don't expect to visit them all in one trip to Alaska. Start with one or two, then come back to see the rest!

This video is beyond helpful! I'm in the middle of trying to get to all 63 of the national parks this year. Planning for Alaska's parks was overwhelming. Thank you for putting this together!!

I have time set aside in August and September to get started, but I'm going to spread the parks out over two (or three) years to help break up the expense of getting to the remote locations. I'm eager to get started though! I still haven't seen a grizzly bear, and I can't wait to see the Alaskan Mountains in the summer! I've visited 52 parks and should be 54 by the end of summer.

Nice video. A 2nd video on the other national park units or public land units would also be great.

We have been to 4 of them and are looking forward to going to Lake Clark and Katmi. Both to see the bears. That will leave the 2 in the north.

you didn't mention the horrible logistics the ridiculous expense and the overall hassle. you also didn't mention the wanting killing of the wildlife. Everything is shot trapped and murdered in Alaska. Pretty bad rules.

We have 17 National Parks plus 2 National Monuments plus 2 National Forests plus 10 National Wildlife Refuges plus 44 Designated Wilderness Areas plus 24 Wild & Scenic Rivers and an immense amount of other small w wilderness. Not Eight Parks, sorry.

Wallace Thomas, would you be kind enough to list those extra 9 national parks? I only see 8 labeled as such--the ones she listed, which is what the National Park Service's website says.

Wallace Thomas, I just checked my map, and 1 of your figures is wrong: Misty Fjords, Cape Krusenstern, and Aniakchak are all Nat'l. Monuments--3, not 2. Also, here you say there are 17, but above, it jumps to 19. Hmmm!
