I didn’t get the YA Fairyloot box yet but it’s really pretty. A little bummed that they seem to choose the same books that OwlCrate does so often. A have a few dups from them.
Yeah, I can see why that would be a bummer for some, but I think they decide books based on what are their most anticipated and what will be popular when they read them. Also, one is in Canada and the other is in the UK and not everyone can afford to buy both boxes, so I kind of appreciate that subscribers of both can get a copy of the book of the month even if they’re the same. 😊
@@Miss_Creepy_As_Hell in some cases I really liked the UK version more. When I like both it’s an issue because I don’t want to unhaul one of the dups. Makes less room on the bookshelf 🫠
That is really cool that Unplugged Book Box reprinted those books. So many companies wouldn't have at all! The Gumiho book is gorgeous. I don't know that I'm interested in reading it, but it'd definitely be welcome on my shelves for looks alone! The inner artwork for the Goddess of the River is pretty. Not sure I love that pink, but at least it's bright and a little different to stand out! The Wren in the Holly Library was pretty...but I wonder if it'd look better if it was just a hard case (no dust jacket), kind of like what OC did with Where Dreams Descend. The edges of The Night Ends with Fire are gorgeous! You're right about the dragon books. I've loved dragon books since I was a kid, but they definitely have phases where they are published more often. I have a feeling this renewal of interest stems from Fourth Wing being so popular. I totally agree with you about OC. It's the one box I subbed to and still get the book only. I have had a sub since 2019. I still love their book designs but I think they have to figure out how to add more stenciled edges to their books regularly and not just once or twice a year. Their items have gone downhill in quality and are becoming very repetitive which is the major reason I switched to book only. The price difference between the items box and the book only is not that big but I struggled figuring out what to do with their items when I got them. I figure if I really like something, I'll either buy it from their store or buy it off a trade group. The only thing I really like from them that I'd have to do that for sure, is their yearly book planner and they always put those in their store. This month's items aren't bad (except the pin) but they've done them before, all of them! Highlighters, pin, bookmark, zip charm, journal...all nice but they've done all of them before at least once or twice. I do really like the book edges color and the hard case. Cover is okay, I appreciate that it's truly reversible with the title on the spine/front. I really liked Bayron's This Poison Heart and its sequel so I'm looking forward to reading this one. FL: Like the dust jacket more than OC's, but like OC's hard case and edges better, plus it's actually signed unlike FL. The items were kind of so-so for me. I like the idea of the spoon, but it's not something I'd really need.
I love your commentary about Owlcrate as someone who has also been getting them for awhile. I also would love more stenciled edges, but I loathe the square spines books. They're so blocky and heavy and don't match my other books that I'd rather plain edges until they stop manufacturing them that way.
@@kimberlyreads I don't mind the square spines at all and don't think they stand out on my shelves from other books, but that's just a personal preference. I kind of like the little differences between publishers/types of books. I'm more concerned about series and how they look together rather than different books by different authors, if that makes sense. I did see on insta from OC that the rest of the year, their YA books will have stenciled edges, just as a fyi...
I am conflicted on the night ends with fire because I feel like there have been a lot of books with dragons recently. So I liked the US edition with the pheonix, but I like the stenciled edges and endpapers of the fairyloot edition way more.
I did recommend the God and the Gumiho and I will recommend it again! Can't wait to hear what you think about it. (TBH I prefer the more purple-ish original cover colors, but Fairyloot's version is really pretty. And the hardcover is really really cool. Especially the coffee) I love how Goddess of the River looks. I think I've seen re-sells of it already, and I will definitely be trying to get it. "The Wren..." looks really nice. "The night ends with fire" - oooh. I like the original cover, but I really want this one too, haha. Time to start hunting for re-sells. "Sleep like death" -> I skipped Owlcrate version because I thought i'm not really interested, but I like the design. Both endpapers look a bit off. We had "Cinderella..." translated to Polish, so I assume we will get this book too, so I will just wait for it. But I like Fairyloot's version much better. I assume the thing on Fairyloot's hardcover is just the mirror. Since it's Snow White retelling, right? These book bags are fun. Stickers are always cool. I like getting stickers. Probably my favourite type of book merch. The vase maybe could work with fake flowers, if you find some pretty ones? --- I'm getting August Fairyloot's YA box (I think it's YA?). Skipping Owlcrate (I was considering stopping the sub completely, since I skipped two books in a row, but September looks interesting). August Locked Library sounds cool too. I've finished reading Locked Library's "Moonstone" edition. It was a really nice book. A bit short. 7,5/10 stars for me. Staring "When the Moon Hatched". I also got Fairyloot's "Forged by blood" recently and started it too.
I definitely was thinking of getting fake flowers for the vase since I'm bad at keeping real plants alive for any amount of time. I'm still so jealous that I can't get Locked Library. I'm hoping they open to the US eventually.
I was so excited for the FL Romantasy book. A bluelyboo redesign and a gonzalom reverse dust jacket.....and then they didn't even give us the reverse art. It's times like these that I'm like...FL gets away with murder because their spots are so sought-after. They should reprint the dust jackets but they won't. Idk. Pretty peeved.
Wow I had no idea. I don't bother reading in advance what stuff is so I'm not disappointed... I agree they should reprint if that's what they promised.
@@kimberlyreads I usually check what kinda customizations are coming just in case one of the book boxes is gunna be a duplicate. But good on these smaller companies for not just reprinting dust jackets but entire books if they have too to make things right. They deserve all the kudos.
Great to see you back in another unboxing, I am so looking forward to the Evernight book arriving as I am still waiting on that one. I know you skipped this one as you don’t like the main focus of this book.
@kimberlyreads It's why we love you!!!❤❤😂❤ Why I keep coming back. Yours are the only unboxings I watch consistently. Your good sense about quality in book boxes and customer service is a plus.
Absolutely beautiful editions!
The July OwlCrate box was fantastic...and so was the book! It is a true fairytale setting and story!💚
I think for sleep like death - it would be perfect with Fairyloot book and owlcrate dust jacket. Ohh and with the owlcrate green sprayed edge.
Buckkeep is from the The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb I'm so happy there's something for it

Love these annual unboxings😎 📚🥤

I really love the look of the Romantasy book, I am actually excited for this one. I read A curse of blood and wolves and my god it was awful.
I love that edition Sleep like Death…wow
When I draw people I feel like I do better with the female characters. 😊
The FL bonus items are okay....but nowhere near the impressive quality of the OC box
Hilarious. I just dont like male artwork, she says. Fifteen minutes before, he looks like Rhys, he's gorgeous. Hilarious!!!
