For what purpose is a format of black paper glued to the bottom of the pack at 2:54 minutes of the video? Is it not possible to bypass this process?

For mock up making, I'd like to do it the "official way" that is I draw out the die lines on the computer then print it out, lay it over the cover sheet, and use box cutter to cut it precisely.
