Wow I love euphorbias! I have a few. I also have stenoclada, enterophora and pencil cactus they're gorgeous! Didn't know there are many varieties of pencil cactus. Learned a lot very informative video!👌
14:08 Euphorbia Larro I believe whomever took cuttings of "fire sticks" for Walmart accidentally took cuttings of this plant! I have 2 sticks I found on the floor from fairchild pots and the leaves and new growth look nothing like typical fire sticks they are very small and hates any type of cold breeze even in the summer. They also have stayed completely green in full sun but did not grow well. Mine even have the same growth pattern. This is why I keep an eye out for unusual cuttings lying on the floor 🙃
I've grown a 5-foot Parlor Palm nice and bushy, tall bushy crotons indoors and a 10ft tall rubber tree all from the grow lights I get on Amazon. No sun. I find that those long round tube looking ones that have color options don't last. They start blinking and you have to lower the intensity. My favorites are the ones with the little white rectangle lights. Got a bunch that are still going strong 5 years later 12 hours a day.
Just one little bit of pickiness. _Kalanchoe_ comes from the Cantonese name not Greek. Therefore the ending should be pronounced like choi in pak choi, bok choy or choy sum. The exact meaning of the first part is debatable but the second part is definitely choi - plant/vegetable. The first part may mean "Buddhist Temple" or "Blue Cabbage" but we will probably never know after 300 years. Great video, thanks, I have a particular fondness for Madagascan plants.
Most flowers are hermaphrodite, that is they possess both male and female sexual organs in the same flower. The female organ is in the centre of the flower and consists of a style and stigma on top (pistil). It is like a tiny hand reaching up with tiny fingers, below is the ovary. The male organs usually surrounds the pistil and consists of the anther and filament (stamens). The anther is where there are the pollen grains. Easy to see because most of them are yellow and are like dust. To get fertilised a plant needs to have the pollen sticking to the stigma which then grows into the style till it reaches the ovary to fertilize the plant. This is done by various methods mainly by bees and butterflies but can be by other means such as birds, bats, wind and even water, depending on the species. In some Euphorbia (not all) and some other plants you may find only the pistil on one plant and the stamens on another. Thus you need both these plants to have fertilization. It must be noted also that there are plants with compound flowers such as in daisies that have a lot of tiny flowers in one 'flower', hence compound flower. Also the 'petals' (the colourful part of the flower) of the Euphorbia flowers are actually modified leaves and thus the inflorescence of an Euphorbia is called a cyathium (plural cyathia).

Convergent evolution has always facinated me, it's amazing to see the huge diversity even in one group of euphorbia, it's just such a diverse genus 🤭

Madagascar has a few very interesting species of vanilla as well, they show desert adaptation as well.
